Three Warriors in double figures in Crossbar Alfred finale in men’s basketball
ALFRED, N.Y. – Three Lycoming College men’s basketball players finished in double figures to lead the Lycoming College men’s basketball team, which fell to Hiram College in the final of the Crossbar Alfred Classic on Saturday at Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.
Junior Connor Shanahan earned a spot on the Crossbar Alfred Classic All-Tournament team, as he once again led the Warriors (1-1) with 12 points after posting 24 in the Friday night win over Alfred. He also added four rebounds and two assists.
Freshman Elisha Slabach also added 12 points, his second straight double-digit effort, and senior Isaiah Valentine posted 11 points and two assists, as he crossed the 900-point barrier in his career, finishing the game with 907. Senior J.J. Beagle, a Williamsport graduate, added eight points, two assists and a block and freshman Noa’Sosa Friedman posted four rebounds and two steals.
Hiram (2-0) shot 53 percent (31-of-59) from the field and hit eight 3-pointers while Lycoming shot 43% (23 of 54) in the contest.
The Terriers scored the first 10 points before Lycoming went on an 8-2 run, closing within four with 14:01 left after a Valentine layup. A pair of 3-pointers from Hiram followed and a 13-4 run in the final six minutes of the half helped the Terriers lead 42-24 at the break. In the second half, the Warriors could only get as close as 15 points.
Josh Martin led the Terriers with 16 points and five rebounds and Tournament MVP Collin Jones added 14 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The Warriors start their home slate on Wednesday when they host Keuka College at 7 p.m., in Lamade Gym.
