Valentine, Pardoe combine for 30, as Lyco men’s hoops falls at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE – Senior Isaiah Valentine posted 17 points, hitting three 3-pointers and adding four assists and sophomore Hayden Pardoe added 13 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals to pace the Lycoming College men’s basketball team, which fell to Wilkes University, 74-67, in Landmark Conference action on Wednesday night at the Marts Center.

Valentine finished the game with 933 points, sitting 67 away from becoming the 34th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points.

Junior Connor Shanahan posted nine points, four rebounds and two steals and first-year Noa’Sosa Friedman added eight points, six rebounds and two steals. First-year Elisha Slabach added seven points for the Warriors (2-3, 0-1).

After Wilkes (4-0, 1-0) scored the game’s first eight points, the Warriors rallied to tie it at 10 and managed to take a 20-19 lead with 6:05 left in the first half after a layup from Shanahan. A Wilkes 3-pointer started a seven-point run and helped it take a five-point lead, 31-26, at the break.

The Colonels opened the second half on a 21-7 run through the first 8:05, and they led by 19 with 5:04 left, but the Warriors began to chip away at the lead, starting with an old-fashioned 3-point play from sophomore Princeton Layton, igniting a 17-3 run to close within five off a 3-pointer from Pardoe with 55 ticks left. The Colonels closed the game, though, with six free throws in the final seconds.

Daniel Santaniello led the Colonels with 32 points and six rebounds and Colin Ackerman added 17 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Eli Becker grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 22, when they host 22nd-ranked Catholic University of America at 2 p.m., in Lamade Gym.

Starting at $2.99/week.
