Warriors look to keep win streak intact today at Juniata
RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Lycoming's Jared Zimmerman (12) moves the ball past Rowan's Ezra Williams-Thomas (39) during a college football game at David Person Field on Saturday.
Lycoming’s football team is hoping to keep its win streak in tact this week as Lycoming travels to Huntingdon to face Juniata at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Warriors have rattled off three consecutive wins against Western Connecticut State (42-24), Wilkes (31-21) and Catholic (38-12) before having a bye week last week to rest.
The Warriors (4-5) have a chance to end the regular-season with a .500 record with a win on Saturday.
Against Catholic, Lycoming trailed early 6-0 roughly four minutes into the game. But Lycoming’s next drive saw the Warriors score when Joe Lyons found Dawson Debebe for an 11-yard pass and from there, Lycoming cruised to a 38-12 victory.
Lyons threw for 251 yards, 116 of which went to Debebe.
Spencer Ferguson was Lycoming’s leading rusher with 47 yards while Jersey Shore graduate Elijah Jordan ran for 44 on six carries and had a rushing touchdown.
Lycoming had seven tackles for loss, two of which came from Khalil Johnson and one apiece from Trinity Hill-Caleb, Evan Woodward and Mike Sipps. The Warriors also saw Hill-Caleb, Woodward, Sipps, Nasir Shakur (0.5) and Cyre Collins Jackson (0.5) record sacks.
The Warriors’ defense has been playing well since a 69-7 loss to Susquehanna five weeks ago. Since then, Lycoming hasn’t allowed anyone to score more than 24 points against it during its three-game win streak.
Juniata has struggled this season and entering with a 2-7 record. Those two wins came to open the year with a 31-30 victory at Gettysburg followed by a 40-38 win against Allegheny. However since then, Juniata suffered a seven-game losing streak which continued last week against Moravian (38-13).
Juniata has struggled throwing the ball as Ethan Eisenberg has just 794 passing yards through eight games. Juniata’s running game is led by Ivan Foreman who has 832 yards, averaging 5.3 yards per carry, with nine touchdowns.
Lycoming has held its last three opponents to three or fewer touchdowns and has gained confidence and momentum defensively.
