Zeigler, Neal take titles at W&J Invitational for Lycoming wrestling
WASHINGTON – Junior 174-pounder Nolen Zeigler and junior 197-pounder Ivan Neal won their weight classes at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational to lead a group of seven placewinners at the tournament on Saturday.
Freshman 197-pounder Tyler Lobb took second, junior 141-pounder Major Lewis and senior 184-pounder Eli Crum each took third and freshman 133-pounder Luke Magnani and freshman 165-pounder Nando Ott each took sixth.
The Warriors took third in the 14-team field, finishing behind Army Prep (200) and Gettysburg (138) with 119.5 points.
Zeigler, ranked second in Division III at 174 pounds, posted two pins and two tech falls en route to his second title of the year, as he pinned Muskingum’s Breyden Hill, beat Alfred State’s George Racz, 15-0, Gettysburg’s Ryan Gallagher 15-0 and pinned Waynesburg’s Jesse Orbin in 5:11.
Neal posted two tech falls, a major decision and a decision en route to his first collegiate title. He posted a 21-5 tech fall over Waynesburg’s Isiaha Siwik before Neal downed top-seeded Phil Nave of Gettysburg, 6-3, in the quarterfinals. He added a 17-2 tech fall of Alfred State’s Keeran Timerman and then posted a 10-1 major decision over second-seeded Lobb in the final.
Lobb won three matches by decision en route to the finals where he met Neal. Lewis went 4-1 with a tech fall, a pin and two decisions and Crum went 3-1 with three tech falls. Magnani and Ott were 3-2 en route to their sixth-place finishes.
The Warriors head to Penn State Behrend Duals on Saturday where they will face RIT at 11 a.m., Penn State Behrend at 12:30 p.m. and Washington & Jefferson at 2 p.m.
