Bucknell women score 102 points in rout over Gwynedd Mercy

LEWISBURG — Bucknell women’s basketball (4-7) rolled past Gwynedd Mercy (3-8) 102-26 in Sojka Pavilion on Saturday afternoon. The Bison put up 100 points for the first time since 2002 and broke several records in the process. Isabella Casey, Tuana Coskun, Anna Kunzwiler and Kaila Richards combined for 80 points and all four players set career-highs in scoring.

The Bison took a major 27-point lead in the first quarter kickstarted by an 11-0 opening performance from Coskun, who tied Bucknell women’s basketball’s record for made threes in a single game with eight. Only Molly Creamer and Trisha Krewson have made eight threes in a game in program history. She also led the Bison to a new team-record 15 threes made in the game.

Coskun’s 33 points led all scorers on the floor, and she was lights out shooting 12-of-16 from the field and 8-for-12 from three-point range. The junior set career highs in points, field goals made and three-pointers made.

Casey’s career-high 17 points came on 7-of-13 shooting with two threes. Kunzwiler and Richards each scored 15 points. Richards shot 6-of-11 from the field and 2-of-3 from three and Kunzwiler was nearly perfect from the field on 6-of-7 shooting.

Marissa Smith and Grace Backus each scored their first collegiate basket in the final quarter of the game and Desirae Ashton saw 14 minutes of playing time and a career-high seven points.

Bucknell shot 60.3 percent from the field and 53.6 percent on three-pointers. The 76-point victory marks the biggest margin of victory in school history, surpassing the previous mark of 47 points set back in 1985 against Coppin State.

Bucknell started the game on fire with a 24-0 run, leaving Gwynedd Mercy scoreless until there was 45 seconds left in the first quarter. Tuana Coskun opened the game with 11 unanswered points right off the bat. Isabella Casey tacked on two layups to give the Bison a 15-0 lead at the media timeout. Out of the break, Casey tacked on four more points, Kunzwiler nailed a three, and Hardy hit a layup to extend Bucknell’s lead to 24-0 and force Gwynedd Mercy to take a timeout with just under two minutes left in the quarter. With 45 seconds to go, Alexis Kanzinger hit the lone shot for Gwynedd Mercy to put them on the board. The Bison answered with a three-point play by Kunzwiler off a foul and a three-pointer from Kaila Richards to end the quarter 30-3.
