MILL HALL — On Thursday, the (0-1) Central Mountain Wildcats hosted the (1-0) Shikellamy Braves in a girl’s wrestling match for their first dual meet of the season. It just was not the Wildcats’ night, as the Braves took an early lead that they would never surrender.

The evening got started with a couple of forfeits, as at 100 pounds, neither team had a wrestler, and Shikellamy’s Hailey Evans won at 106 via a forfeit as well. There would be in total six forfeits (100, 106, 124, 155, 190, and 235), with the only one favoring the Wildcats being at 235 pounds as No. 12 ranked Ashlyn Miller picked up a win.

There would be matches at all other weights however, and the Wildcats would get off to a strong start as at 112, Emma Scarborough-Perez beat Shik’s Oliva Bozeman by disqualification.

After that, Shikellamy went on a run, scoring four straight wins via pin as Skylar Wiest, No. 8 ranked Aubrey Rebuck, No. 25 ranked Ryleigh Ziants and Isabell Marlow all scored early falls.

No. 8 ranked Austynn Falls would get the Wildcats back on the board at 148, getting an emphatic pin of her own to bring the score back to 36-12 in favor of the Braves. Then, after a forfeit at 155, CM’s No. 7 ranked Kendall Wagner was stunningly upset by Shikellamy’s Brianna Keller.

Keller got on Wagner early and Wagner seemingly could never find her footing, as Keller scored a pin to complete the upset and the win for the Braves, 48-18.

After the match, Wildcats head coach Dylan Caprio praised his team for their effort and commented on how proud he is of how far the program has come in its three years of existence, noting how girl’s wrestling is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States.

Next up, the Wildcats will host the “Queen of the Mountain Duals” on Dec. 21.
