Williamsport’s Clover Lindsay admitted after Saturday’s 1-meter diving competition that she does well with twisting and it’s among her strengths when competing. She knows she can do very well when doing twists on the board.
However, despite it being her strength, she found herself unfortunately failing the dive on her sixth and final attempt of a backward dive, one somersault, one-and-one-half twist, free position.
Failed dive or not though, Lindsay still showed why she is the defending District 2-4 Class AAA girls diving champion and walked away with a win in the competition. Lindsay scored a 188.80 to win by 20 points, even more impressive given she had that failed sixth dive and had no score from it.
“I’m disappointed in myself for not doing the dive right, but I am happy I got first. The one I failed (was my best),” Lindsay said with a laugh. “I’m good at twisting and I was working on two and a half in the beginning, but I decided against that and went with one and a half and I over rotated it.”
The Millionaire put up strong scores throughout the day, with her lowest being a dive on her first of an inward dive, pike position of 5, 6 and 6. She then scored three 5 1/2s attempting an inward dive, one-and-one-half somersault, tuck position.

Her best dive was her fourth where she scored a 6, 5 1/2 and 7 attempting a backward dive, one somersault, straight position. Lindsay’s third attempt saw her score a 6, 5 1/2, 6 attempting a forward dive, two somersault, tuck position. On her fifth attempt — a backward dive, one somersault, one twist, free position — she scored three 6 1/2s.
For Lindsay and teammate Allie Eberhart — Williamsport’s only two divers this year — they were glad to be competing against other divers and not just themselves as they usually do in many dual meets and tri meets.
“Definitely (gives us motivation). I enjoy having competition,” Lindsay said.
“It’s a lot nicer than just competing against ourselves,” Eberhart added. “I like competing against other people.”
The Millionaire duo went 1-2 in Saturday’s event as Holy Redeemer’s Addie Brill finished third and Holy Redeemer’s Amirah Edwards was fourth. Lindsay won with a score of 188.80, Eberhart scored a 168.80, Brill scored a 152.95 and Edwards scored a 116.05.

Eberhart had a strong start on Saturday by scoring a 5 1/2, 6 and 6 on her first attempt of an inward dive, pike position. She then had a 5, 5 1/2 and 5 attempting an inward dive, one somersault, tuck position and a 5, 5, and 5 1/2 on a forward dive, two somersault, tuck position.
“It was fine. My twisters were bad, I was just over-rotating a lot,” Eberhart said. I need to work on my takeoff to get that better and my twisters should be good.”
She scored three 4 1/2s on her third attempt of a backward dive, one somersault, one twist, free position and had a 4, 4 1/2, 4 1/2 on her fifth attempt of a backward dive, one somersault, one-and-a-half twist, free position. Eberhart’s final dive saw her score a 5 1/2, 5, 5 1/2 attempting a reverse dive, one somersault, tuck position.
Brill’s best dive was her first and third. While doing an inward dive, pike position she scored a 5 1/2, 6, 5 1/2. She received that same score for a backward dive, one somersault, pike position two attempts later.
Edwards scored a 5, 5 1/2, 4 1/2 on her fifth dive of a forward, straight position on her fifth attempt and had a 5, 4, 4 1/2 on her first attempt performing an inward dive, pike position.

For Eberhart and Lindsay, they’ve seen improvements on the diving board from last winter to this year and are glad to be continuing to improve.
“I feel like I’ve improved a good amount. I’m hoping I do better than I did last year,” Eberhart said.
“From freshman year to sophomore year there wasn’t much (improvement), but already I’m seeing more than last year,” Lindsay noted.
