The following honor scores were bowled during the last two weeks. Tom Sobiech fired an 825 series in the Monday Night Classic League, followed closely by Markus Budda’s 806 in that same league the week before. Brittany Weidler rolled a 734 in the Thursday Night Bowling League, while 725 series were posted by both Danielle Barlet in the Andy Tressler Memorial and Amanda Heck in the Intercommunity League.

Barlet also had a 714 in the Monday Night Classic the previous week. Brenda Stopper’s 289 game, which exceeded her average by 100 pins in the Intercommunity, took female high game honors, while Mike Pepperman and Markus Budda each shot a 300 game.

Sobiech had a 299 game in his series, as did Nick Wilcox in the Faxon Sport League, Chip Carnes in the Monday Night Classic, and Travis Ruppert and Tony Bixby, both in the Intercommunity.

The Ghost of Christmas past

On Christmas Eve in 1926, local bowling legend Tommy Barger Sr. came within one pin of being the first local bowler to break the 800 barrier when he bowled a 799 series in a tournament at the Williamsport YMCA, setting a new local record for high series.

This record would not be broken until March 17, 1938, when another local legend, Joe Kittell, posted an 825, the first 800 series in local bowling history.
