Kegler’s Korner: Wentzel Jr. bowls an 807, Gridley a 719
A lot of leagues took the Thanksgiving week off, but there were still some outstanding scores reported, none better than the first 800 series of Ernie Wentzel Jr’s career, an 807 in the Monday Night Classic League. And leading the women was Stacy Gridley who shot a 719 in the Brenda Welshans Memorial League.
Taking top honors in the high game department was Amanda Heck, Jon Albright, and Matt DeSanto. While Amanda fired a 277 despite the fact that she was bowling on the sport shot in the Three-Man Major League, in the Faxon Sport League, Albright tossed a 290 game which was matched by DeSanto in the Intercommunity League.
Not to be overlooked was Rebeka Zondory’s 266 game in the Monday Night Classic, which exceeded her average by more than 70 pins.
Following are the highest available weekly scores for each sanctioned local league.

This week we remember 1976 local Hall of Fame inductee Doris Agostinelli. Starting her 24-year bowling career in 1939, Agostinelli had a career-high series of 603 and a career-high game of 246. She was a member of the 600 club, winning the Bowler of the Year title for the 1956-57 season and placing in many city and state tournaments. Agostinelli was the daughter of Hall of Famers, Mike and Margaret Elliot, and the wife of Hall of Famer Morris Agostinelli.
She used a bowling ball that was purchased by her father back in 1914 at the old Magee Alleys which was located in the basement of the Williamsport Sun-Gazette building. Her father used to tell her that ball was so experienced you didn’t have to know how to throw it, it knew its own way to the pocket.
Hope to see you on the lanes.
