Local roundup: Muncy boys basketball falls in Muncy Tournament final to Towanda
Muncy’s boys basketball team fell in the Muncy Tournament championship game to Towanda, 48-41, as Towanda outscored the Indians in the fourth quarter, 15-5.
Dominic Guardini scored 15 points and Jaxton Frantz added 10 to lead the Indians. Towanda didn’t have a single scorer in double-digits.
After both teams combined for just 10 points in the first quarter, Towanda scored 21 in the second while Muncy scored 19.
Brecken Gusick scored 21 points to lead Loyalscok in a 64-34 rout over orth Penn-Mansfield on the road. Issac Blackswell added 13 points and Brayden Cioffi scored 15.
Mansfield was led by a pair of double-digit scorers in Andy Hermansen (14) and Patrick Youmans (10).
Lewisburg survived a close game against Mifflin County, 64-62. The Green Dragons trailed at halftime, 33-30, but outscored Mifflin County in the second half to seal the victory.
Nazir Meredith had a team-high 16 points, Rebira Jemama added 14 and Leon Tucker II scored 12 points.
Eight players scored as the Wellsboro boys’ rallied in the fourth quarter and won a hard-fought 46-41 contest against visiting Hughesville. Jonathan Carl scored 10 points, Marek Mascho nine and Luke Rothermel eight. Gavin Knarr had a game-high 18 points, as well six rebounds, three assists and three steals for Hughesville. Alex Schultz totaled 13 points and eight rebounds, while Evan Mackenzie added seven boards.
Kason Ulmer scored a career-high 16 points and Tevin Williams added 15 but defending District 3 Class 6A champion Central York defeated Williamsport, 82-45. Central York started strong, building a 28-9 first quarter lead.
• Freshman Marlee Lehman scored 16 points and fellow freshman Sadie Schall added nine as Jersey Shore won its third straight game, defeating Warrior Run, 39-29. The Bulldogs (3-1) built a 25-13 halftime lead and did not allow more than 10 points in a quarter. Carlota Morente scored 12 points for Warrior Run and Mya Evans added nine.
Williamsport used strong defense and balanced scoring to give coach Lamar Ballard his first varsity win, defeating Selinsgrove on the road, 30-27. The Millionaires did not allow more than eight points in a quarter and Zaelana Minor and Jaelynn Helmrich each scored eight points. Laylah Martin and Clara Fabian added six each.
Delone Catholic handed defending 3A state champion Loyalsock its first loss, winning, 38-29 at the Elizabethtown Showcase. Alaina Dadzie had a big game for the Lancers, scoring a game-high 17 points, grabbing 16 rebounds and adding four steals. Jaekairah Harden added four assists and three steals.
Lewisburg lost on the road to Mifflin County, 50-40. Addy Shedleski had a a huge game with 19 points and led the team with 16 rebounds for a double-double while Ava Motto scored 17. Lauren Schwartz grabbed seven rebounds.
