Local roundup: Muncy boys fall to Troy in Sullivan County Tournament

Muncy fell to Troy in the Sullivan County Tournament in boys basketball on Friday. Jaxon Frantz led Muncy with 19 points. Troy was led by a trio of players in double figures in Trey Teribury (15), Spencer Martin (13) and Aiden Lawrence (10).

Also in the Sullivan County Tournament, the host Griffins defeated MMI, 54-27. Lucas King had a monster game, scoring 26 points while Colin King added nine to lead Sullivan with six rebounds. Cayden Smithkors had a near double-double as he scored eight points with a team-high 11 rebounds. Tucker Blasi had five steals and three rebounds.

Canton lost to Austin, 42-32. Ryder Route hit a team-high five 3-pointers to score 19 points for the Warriors. Canton was limited to single digits in three of four quarters, including just five in the first quarter.

North Penn-Mansfield defeated St. John Neumann, 61-47. Jason Harm scored 17 for the Tigers while Andy Hermanson scored 14. A trio of players scored eight in Collin Oakes, Patrick Youmans and Layne Cummings. Neumann was led by Dalton Thompson’s 21-point effort and Legend Dillard added nine.

Tevin Williams scored a career-high 28 points and Williamsport entered the fourth quarter with a one-point lead at Hazleton before the defending District 2-4 Class 6A champions rallied and won, 62-53 Friday night. Williams was the lone Millionaire in double figures with freshman Mekhi Gaston scoring eight and Kason Ulmer and Ethan Chilson six each. Dylan Stish had 32 for Hazleton.

Kingston Fisher scored 20 points and Shea Ulmer 19 but Montoursville’s fourth quarter rally fell short in a 64-62 loss against host Mifflinburg at the Mifflinburg Tournament. Ulmer hit five 3-pointers and Elijah Eck (9 points) three. The Warriors led by five at halftime before Mifflinburg outscored it by five in the third quarter. The Wildcats shot 30 foul shots and Montoursville just five.

Ethan Balzer erupted for a career-high 25 points and added 10 rebounds, leading a balanced offense as Warrior Run defeated Central Mountain, 84-49 at the Milton Tournament semifinals. Aiden McKee also had a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. Five players reached double figures, including James Keifer (12), Clayton Skokoski (10) and Carter Sheesley (10). Landon Polcyn added eight points and eight assists. Darius Shade had 13 points for Central Mountain.

Ryder Route had a big night, scoring a career-high 19 points in Canton’s 42-32 loss against Austin. Route made five 3-pointers as well.

North Penn-Liberty opened defense of its District 4 Class A championship with a hard-fought 60-54 win against Montgomery at the Kyle Lynn Tournament. Luke Kreger scored 17 points, Evan McTish 16 and Conner Lewis and Landon Mattern nine each. Montgomery cut a 12-point halftime deficit in half with Parker Bennett scoring a game-high 22 points and Damaj Stewart Williams a career-best 20.

• After kicking off the season on a rough note on Thursday, Jersey Shore girls basketball bounced back swimmingly just one day later. Behind a 12-point outing from Marlee Lehman, a couple of crucial threes and strong defense, the Bulldogs improved to 1-1, defeating Selinsgrove, 36-25, in the Selinsgrove Tournament third-place game on Friday night.

Alongside a career-high from Lehman, Sadie and Kylie Schall combined for 12 points and each knocked down a three-pointer. Both those threes came in the first quarter, which saw Shore quickly set the tone and carry a 10-2 lead into the second. From there, the Bulldogs never let up, establishing a double-digit lead in the second and re-establishing it for good in the fourth.

South Williamsport defeated Wellsboro, 52-34. Carly Quimby led South Williamsport with 10 points while both Ella Moore and Abigail Holbrook scored nine. Ivy MInier, Brielle Burgess and Ayla Minier all scored eight for South.Lena Rothermel and Kate Bryant each scored eight for the Green Hornets.

St. John Neumann came up shy against Millville, falling 29-23. Bre Nixon scored nine for the Golden Knights and Kallee Johnson added seven. Millville was led by Julia Hippenstiel’s 14.

Ava Eyer produced a double-double, going for 19 points and 12 rebounds as the Muncy girls reached the Muncy Rotary Tournament championship, downing Meadowbrook Christian, 41-10. Rozie Zalonis scored nine points and Anna Zalonis had seven with six rebounds. The Indians did not allow more than three points in any quarter and will play host Milton in Saturday’s championship.

Milton earned the shot to win its second straight championship after defeating Benton, 48-33. Carrie King led a balanced offense, scoring 12 points and nine rebounds. She was one of six players who scored at least six points. Liz Schrock grabbed 11 rebounds and Lainey Snyder had six assists. Hayden Snyder added five steals.
