Local roundup: Muncy uses 16-point fourth to defeat Milton 50-42
Muncy used a 16-point fourth quarter to edge Milton 50-42 at the Muncy Tournament in boys basketball on Friday night.
Milton held an 11-9 lead in the first and took a 24-20 lead into the break. Muncy would outscore Milton in the second half to secure the win and move to 4-1. Jaxton rantz had 23 points as he went 11 for 15 from the free throw line. Dominic Guardini added 17 points as the duo led the Indians.
The Black Panthers were led by JaCori Brown’s 14 points and Brady O’Rourke’s 11.
Montgomery drained 10 3-pointers and used a big third quarter surge to win at Bucktail, 67-45 in its Mid-Penn West Division opener. The Red Raiders outscored Bucktail 25-12 in the third quarter, building a 19-point lead. Parker Bennett scored 21 points, Damaj Stewart-Williams 14 and Jace Hanford 10. Gavin Pick scored a career-high 29 points for Bucktail.
Montoursville topped 70 points for a third straight game and won its third straight, defeating Midd-West, 71-38. The Warriors continued receiving nice balance with four players scoring in double figures and five producing at least nine. Shea Ulmer scored 13 points, Elijah Eck and Cam Cintron 11, Kingston Fisher 10 and Jay Houseknecht nine. The Warriors built a 39-22 halftime lead.
Aiden McKee, Landon Polcyn and Ethan Balzer all had strong games, helping Warrior Run rout Shikellamy, 67-27 to remain undefeated. McKee and Polcyn scored 18 points and Balzer added 16. McKee produced his third double-double with 11 rebounds, five assists and four blocks, while Polcyn dealt four assists and Balzer grabbed nine rebounds.
Sullivan County had three players score in double figures as Colin King and Tucker Blasi both scored 16 to propel the Griffins to an 89-17 rout against Northwest.
Lucas King scored 11 for the Griffins. Dom Marotti and Liam Busch both scored eight for Sullivan County.
• Wellsboro defeated Sayre in an NTL matchup, 42-25. The Green Hornets led 12-6 after the first quarter and limited Sayre to single digits all four quarters en route to a 26-13 halftime lead.
Lily Wagner led Wellsboro with a 14-point performance while Kate Bryant added 11. Ady Frantz had a team-high five steals.
North Penn-Liberty came up just shy in a NTL contest against Athens at home, falling 44-41. McKenna Jarvis scored 17 for Athens and Allison Kemp added 11.
North Penn-Liberty’s Haley Litzelman had a 26-point, 19-rebound double-double with six blocks and four assists. VIctoria McTish had nine points with three rebounds, Kendall Graham had three points, three boards, three blocks and two steals and Serena Boiywo had sevenr ebounds with three steals and two points.
Kameron Lightner of North Penn-Mansfield posted a double-double with 23 points, outscoring Cowanesque Valley herself, as Mansfield cruised to a 48-16 win. Lightner had 23 points and 15 rebounds. Cowanesque Valley trailed 17-1 after the first quarter and was held to single digits all four quarters, including being blanked in the fourth.
Sullivan County played outstanding defense and won at Millville for the first time since 2021, winning, 30-18 in girls basketball action. Lily McCarty scored 11 points, Ansley Baldwin seven and Eva Fresno seven as the Griffins won for the second time in three games.
