Local roundup: Warrior Run loses thriller to Carver at Shamokin Tournament in OT
Warrior Run played an outstanding game against Carver from Philadelphia in the Shamokin Holiday Tournament on Saturday, but the Defenders came up just shy in a 77-72 overtime thriller.
The Defenders saw four players reach double figures, led by Ethan Balzer’s 20-point effort. Aiden McKee added 19, Landon Polcyn scored 16 and James Keifer scored 11.
Warrior Run rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime by outscoring Carver, 19-13.
Carver was led by Fareed Brown’s 20 points while both Matthew McField and Billy Henighan scored 15.
At the Addison Christmas Tournament, Cowanesque defeated Arkport-Cansarega, 58-43. After leading by just one entering the second quarter (8-7), the Indians proceeded to score 14, 18 and 18 through the next three quarters to pull away and led 22-15 at the half.
Levi Stahli led Cowanesque with 17 points and both Josh Teague and Ashtyn Burdick contributed 10 apiece.
A 22-point fourth quarter put the game away for Towanda as the Black Knights beat Sullivan County at home, 59-29. The Griffins were limited to just two points in the final quarter.
Sullivan was led offensively by Cayden Smithkors who scored 11 points. Towanda saw Darrius Farrell score 20 points while Boom Thompson added nine.
• North Penn-Mansfield defeated Thomas Edison, 55-30. Maddy McNamara had 17 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Julia Kaczynski posted a double-double for Mansfield with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Kameron Lightner was just shy of a triple-double as she had 15 rebounds, nine points, eight steals and three blocks.
A scoreless first quarter put Cowanesque Valley into a 12-point hole that it couldn’t claw back from as the Indians lost to Dundee/Bradford at the Addison Christmas Tournament, 55-18. The Indians were limited to single digits all four quarters. Starr Ordway led Cowanesque with a nine-point effort.
