PSU wrestling extends dual meet win streak to a record 77

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Penn State Nittany Lions (6-0) rolled to their second shutout of the day, blanking Stanford (3-3) in the last of two duals at the 2025 Journeymen Collegiate Duals in Nashville, Tenn. Penn State posted the 42-0 victory over the Cardinal and finished off the event outscoring its two opponents 88-0.

Penn State set a new NCAA Division I dual meet win streak record with the victory, having won its 77th-straight. The old mark was 76 set by Oklahoma St. from 1937 to 1951.

The dual began at 125. Nittany Lion sophomore Luke Lilledahl, ranked No. 2 at 125, with a win over No. 12 Nicco Provo. Lilledahl turned a first period takedown into a 4-2 win for Penn State. True freshman Marcus Blaze, ranked No. 10 at 133, worked up a 16-2 lead on No. 6 Tyler Knox before pinning the Cardinal All-American at the 6:44 mark to give the Nittany Lions a 9-0 lead.

True freshman Nate Desmond, again wrestling up at 141, dominated Lain Lapoujian as he rolled to a 9-0 major decision with 3:34 in riding time. Junior Shayne Van Ness, ranked No. 1 at 149, used three takedowns to post a strong 10-4 win over No. 14 Aden Valencia. True freshman PJ Duke, ranked No. 8 at 157, notched the only takedown of the bout in a thrilling 5-2 win over No. 5 Danield Cardenas. Duke’s third period takedown was the difference and Penn State led 19-0 at the dual’s midway point.

Junior Mitchell Mesenbrink, ranked No. 1 at 165, picked up four takedowns before pinning EJ Parco in the second period, getting the fall at 4:23 to put Penn State up 25-0. Senior Levi Haines, ranked No. 1 at 174, used three takedowns and forced three stall warnings in a 14-4 major decision win over Lorenzo Norman. Sophomore Rocco Welsh, ranked No. 4 at 184, followed that up with a 5-1 win over Abraham Wojcikiewicz to give the Nittany Lions a 29-0 win.

Returning national finalist Josh Barr continued his first day of action at 197 for Penn State and continued to impress. Barr rolled up five takedowns and a turn to roll to a 19-3 tech fall over No. 19 Angelo Posada at the 4:13 mark. Redshirt freshman Cole Mirasola, ranked No. 13 at 285, put on an offensive clinic against Luke Duthie in the dual’s final bout. Mirasola tallied seven takedowns in the opening period to post a 21-6 tech fall at the 2:59 mark. The Nittany Lions finished off their second shutout victory of the day, posting the 42-0 win.

The Nittany Lions rolled up a 30-1 edge in takedowns (59-2 for the day) and tallied 12 bonus points off two pins (Blaze, Mesenbrink), two tech falls (Barr, Mirasola) and two majors (Desmond, Haines)

Earlier in the day, Penn State cruised past North Dakota State, 46-0. Lilledahl earned a 6-5 decision at 125 over Ezekial Witt. Penn State’s Cole Mirasola, ranked No. 13, pinned Drew Blacknburn-Forst at 285 in just 33 seconds.
