Wellsboro boys’ win Berguson Trophy against rival North Penn-Mansfield

Wellsboro secured a narrow 49-43 win against rival North Penn-Mansfield to win the Peggy Berguson Memorial Trophy, evening the series in the annual game for the trophy at 6-6.

The Peggy Berguson Memorial Trophy was established in 2015 to honor the life of Margaret Berguson, a former Wellsboro teacher who was a supporter of both Wellsboro and North Penn-Mansfield's athletic programs. She taught in Wellsboro and had sons attend Mansfield High School.

Wellsboro had a pair of double-digit scorers in Marek Mascho (12 points) and Gideon Lawton (11). Jason Harer scored 21 for Mansfield while Andy Hermansen added 14. Harer produced his third straight double-double, adding 10 rebounds, while Hermansen dealt four assists.

Sullivan County remained undefeated, using excellent balance to defeat CMVT, 74-46. Four players scored in double figures, including Lucas King who had a game-high 18 points and four steals. Cayden Smithkors (13 points, 7 rebounds), Jaiden Moore (12 points, 7 rebounds) and Dom Marotti (11 points) all reached season-highs and Sullivan County improved to 6-0.
