Big second quarter propels Loyalsock girls past Williamsport at Magic Dome

Loyalsock turned a close first quarter into a commanding road victory, using a massive second quarter surge to defeat Williamsport, 50-36, Friday night in Williamsport.

The game was tight early with the Lancers holding just a 14-12 lead in the first quarter. However momentum would swing quickly in favor of the Lancers, who erupted for 20 straight points to close out the first half, flipping the game and seizing control.

By the end of the first quarter, the Lancers had built a 34-12 advantage, putting the Millionaires on their heels and forcing them to play catch-up for the remainder of the night. Repeated defensive breakdowns, late rotations, and fouls in transition all contributed to the Lancers’ run.

“The second quarter got away from us really fast. We knew they would come in playing like champions and told the girls we had to match that,” Williamsport coach Lamar Ballard said. “But we battled and fought hard, and that has been our calling card all season. I told the girls in the second quarter to slow down and hit the breaks and let it develop. I think tonight was a learning experience.”

The Lancers continued to exploit defensive lapses, finding open lanes and capitalizing on transition opportunities. A key basket in the second quarter extended Loyalsock’s lead, highlighting both the team’s smart ball movement and the Millionaires’ difficulty recovering defensively.

Play impact was clear throughout the game. Alaina Dadzie consistently scored in short bursts near the basket, breaking the defense with open layups and driver plays. Jaekairah Harden, influenced momentum beyond scoring, drawing fouls and creating plays.

Dadzie and Harden led Loyalsock in scoring with 24 and 13 points, respectively. Madison Perry added eight. Martin had a solid performance for Williamsport with 19 points.

A highlight for the Millionaires came on a beautiful second quarter layup by Laylah Martin, but the Lancers’ pressure defense and ability to finish at the rim prevented any sustained comeback. Even after a full timeout with four minutes left in the last quarter, the same scoring patterns resumed, leaving the Millionaires unable to slow the Lancers’ attack.

“Williamsport played super hard. They knocked down some threes, and they competed, and we expected that,” Loyalsock coach Curtis Jacobson said. “For us, I think we were really good in spurts and really bad in spurts, and we have to clean a lot of stuff up and become efficient. We love to play fast and go after it.”

While the Millionaires showed fight in the fourth quarter, defensive lapses continued to be costly. The final quarter reflected effort but no sustained momentum shift. The Lancers closed out the game with a strong finish, securing the 14-point road win and showcasing an aggressive, fast-paced style that proved too much for the Millionaires.
