Central Mountain swimmers have solid performance vs. Lewisburg
After swimming against Jersey Shore, the Central Mountain swimming teams took on Lewisburg with the same result: a win. The Central Mountain girls won a close matchup, 88-79, while the boys won easily, 90-24.
Central Mountain’s girls swimming team consists of just 14 swimmers and the boys has nine swimmers on it. The coaches used every one of those kids in key events to get the job done.
The CM girls medley relay team took second and fourth while the boys finished first in their relay. Lewisburg has a very strong distance swimmer in Morgan Shannon who took first place in the 200 free as Central Mountain’s Anna Stahl and Lily McWilliams took second and third with Erin Thompson a distance sixth.
The 200 free for the boys had another Shannon (Colin) who took first place for Lewisburg with CM taking the event with seven points with Rhys Swift taking second and Holden Long taking third.
During the 200 IM, Central Mountain’s Gabby Hosley came in first with a time of 2:22.48. This was a very close second place finish against a strong Lewisburg swimmer Claire Graver with a time of 2:23.17. Sloane Coakley and Harper Coleman provided extra strength in this race. For the boys, Che McAllister swam the 200 IM for the first time this season and posted a 2:29.28, coming just shy of the district qualifying time of 2:26.00.
The 50 free was packed with Central Mountain swimmers and taking second place was Kaylie McCloskey at 29.53, third place was Erin Packer at 31.30 and fourth place was Erin Markert at 35.61 right in the middle of the pack scoring a total of nine points to Lewisburg’s seven.
The Boys 50 free saw Jake Rembold drop time in his swim from Tuesday with a 26.54 while Raiden Newcomer stayed the same and they scored seven points to Lewisburgs’ six-point first-place finish. The Wildcats took the girls 100 fly with a first-place finish for Hosley (1:03.00) and a fourth-place finish for McWilliams (1:18.12). Brody Rhine had a great time drop with 1:06.87.
Central Mountain had three girls swim the 100 free finishing second, third and fourth — McCloskey (1:05.35) finishing and already qualifying for districts and the second-place finsher Zaylie Warren (1:06.72) getting closer to districts (1:15.99). Evie Albright, who is nursing a knee injury, scored two points with a fourth-place finish.
The 50 free finishers for the boys were all under a minute. Neil Kaluzny took home first with a 56.16, Christian Briggs was in second place (57.78) and Rhys Swift finished in third place (59.92). The 500 yard swims were led by the Shannons, respectively, for Lewisburg, but CM had the line up stacked in girls scoring nine points to the Green Dragons’ six, and the boys took second with CM’s Long.
The Wildcats took first and third in the girls 200 free relay and the boys took first and second. Lewisburg won the backstroke event with nine points. Freshman Christian Briggs had a very good swim against his teammate, coming in first over senior Kaluzny with both having district qualifying times.
The Green Dragons have a very fast 100 breaststroker in Graver, and she took first, but the Central Mountain girls had a stacked deck and came in second (Amelia Sevedarus, 1:30.82), Warren (1:37.21, third) and Harper Coleman (1:38.74, fourth).
The Wildcats were able to stack the deck with boys breaststrokers taking second with McAllister (1:13.85), Brody Rhine (1:14.83, third) and Raiden Newcomer (1:21.07, fourth).
The last events were the 400 free relays. Lewisburg took first and Central Mountain filled in with second place in 4:21.74 with Hosley, McCloskey, Stahl and McWilliams. Taking third in 4:58.62 was the Wildcats’ Erin Packer, Albright, Svedarus and Thompson.
The Central Mountain nailed down their win with a great relay time of 4:08.18 with the squad of Rhine, Newcomer, Jake Rembold and Long.
