Local roundup: Hughesville girls basketball beats Southern Columbia

Hughesville and Southern Columbia entered the fourth quarter tied at 44 in a tight game, but the Spartans turned it on in the fourth and secured a win. Hughesville’s offense put up 21 points while its defense limited the Tigers to just nine en route to a 65-53 win to move to 8-1 and hand Southern Columbia its sixth loss of the year.

Maddie Smith scored 26 points to lead Hughesville while Allyssa King added 11. Anna Easton scored nine and Vivian Draper chipped in seven. Southern Columbia was led by Kailee Helwig’s 25 and Macie Swank’s 19.

Lewisburg beat Mifflinburg in a low-scoring game, 28-24, to move to 4-3. Teagan Osunde posted a double-double for the Green Dragons with 14 points and 13 rebounds. India Walker had seven rebounds and a team-high six steals.

Jersey Shore defeated Selinsgrove, 40-29. Kylie Schall scored 16 for the Bulldogs while Marley Lehman scored 10. The Seals were held to single digits all four quarters as Shore kept increasing its lead.

Delaney Zentner scored 14 points to lift Bloomsburg to a 34-point win at home against Warrior Run, 39-5. Ally Bang added nine for the Panthers. Charlie Morente had three for the Defenders.

• Jersey Shore defeated Wellsboro, 49-47, in a close game in boys basketball. Jake Lorson had the game-winning shot as the Bulldog scored 11 points with six rebounds and four steals while Khani mcCray had 15 points, three steals and two blocks.

Colin Fletcher led Wellsboro with 14 points.

• Mansfield’s men’s basketball team competed in PSAC action against Edinboro University, with the Fighting Scots taking the win 92-68.

Sterling Scott led Mansfield with a double-double, finishing with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Josh Franklin added 12 points to the scoreboard.

Mansfield opened the game with early baskets from Franklin and Scott, holding the lead in the opening half before trailing 38-31 into the break. The Mounties stayed within reach early in the second half as Scott, Franklin, and Jackson Henry continued to score.

• Mansfield’s women’s basketball team dropped their first game of the 2026 calendar year to Edinboro, 70-52.

Katie Sheeler led the Mounties with 17 points, five assists, and a pair of steals. KJ Gordon and Delilah Nazih each had six points. Ty Woody was Mansfield’s leading rebounder with eight.

The Mounties (2-10, 0-5 PSAC) got off to a slow start in the first quarter. Sheeler, Jenna Kasmierski and Nazih each produced a bucket which was the only scoring for Mansfield in the quarter. Mansfield trailed 25-7.

The offense found the spark in the second quarter, shooting 50% from the floor and from three-point range. Four different Mounties connected on an outside shot in the quarter. They pulled down seven rebounds including three offensive rebounds and had 14 points off turnovers through the first half. Edinboro (8-6, 5-0 PSAC) shot 64% in the quarter to match the 21 points. Mansfield found themselves trailing 46-28 at halftime.
