Local roundup: Loyalsock boys secure win on road at Bloomsburg

Loyalsock limited Bloomsburg to single digits in the second and third quarters as the Lancers secured a 52-39 win on the road. Brecken Gusick led the Lancers with a 17-point effort while Braydon Cioffi scored 14 points. Saoj Jones scored eight.

Bloomsburg held a 14-12 lead after the first quarter, but the Lancers took a 29-18 lead into the half and never let Bloomsburg rally back.

Muncy cruised past Nortwhest on the road, 64-23, thanks to scoring double digits all four quarters. The Indians led 23-6 after the first quarter and held the Rangers to seven or fewer points each quarter. Jaxton Frantz and Nixon Lamper each scored 14 points for Muncy.

Warrior Run held off Southern Columbia for a 42-36 win to move into first place in the HAC-III in a battle of two teams entering Saturday with undefeated league marks.

Braydon Griscavage led the Tigers wthi 12 points. Warrior Run’s offense went through Aiden McKee, who had a team-high 13 points while Ethan Balzer scored nine.

Mount Carmel hit 11 3-pointers en route to a 69-51 against Montoursville. Jude Lazicki scored 22 points and Danny Snyder added 20 for the Red Tornadoes, who scored at least 20 points in each of the first two quarters.

The Warriors were led by Shea Ulmer’s 13 points and Isaac Erlandson’s 10. Kingston Fisher scored nine.

Lewisburg defeated Central Columbia, 61-43, on the road. The Green Dragons saw four players reach double figures, led by Rebira Jemama and Nazir Meredith who both scored 13 points. Leon Tucker II added 12 points and Jaylen Walker scored 11. Cooper Mowry added eight.

South Williamsport rolled past Benton, 75-26. The Mounties scored 24 points in the first quarter and held a dominating 52-10 lead by halftime. South Williamsport was led by Levi Butler’s 21 points, Andrew Walter’s 13 and Jaymes Carpenter’s 10. Chance Quimby added nine as well.

North Penn-Liberty defeated Cowanesque Valley, 61-48. Ashtyn Burdick had a 21-point game for the Indians, but he was Cowanesque’s lone double-digit scorer. Liberty was led by Luke Kreger’s 24 points and Evan McTish’s 14.

North Penn-Mansfield came up just shy on the road against NTL foe Troy, falling by three points, 45-42. Jason Harer led Mansfield with 16 points and Collin Oakes scored 10. Troy received 11 from Spencer Martin and 10 from Evan Allen.

Mifflinburg cruised past Hughesville, 70-38, on the road. A trio of Mifflinburg players reached double figures and the Wildcats scored at least 13 points in all four quarters, including 25 in the third to pull away. Hughesville was led by Gavin Knarr’s 15 points.

• North Penn-Mansfield defeated Addison, New York, 46-35. Kameron Lightner posted a 16-point, 13-rebound double-double with five steals and four assists and Maddy McNamara had 15 points to go with seven boards, two assists and two steals.

Elaina Shaw had eight points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist and Julia Kaczynski had seven points, six rebounds and four steals.

Lewisburg lost to Lourdes, 42-39, in overtime and is now 5-8. Lewisburg was led by India Walker’s 13 points and Ava Motto’s eighth. Teagan Osunde and Addy Shedleski each chipped in seven. Walker came a rebound shy of a double-double as she had nine rebounds and six steals. Lauren Schwartz and Motto both had seven rebounds and Osunde had a team-high 11 rebounds.

• At the Bison Duals in Clearfield, Montoursville’s Hayden Harvey became the latest Warrior wrestler to reach 100 career wins. He’s one of three Warriors currently on the roster wtih at least 100 wins, joining Teli Bobotas (150) and Gage Wentzel (162).

The Warriors won the team title at the Bison Duals, although match results were not made available.

• Delilah Nazih and Jenna Burkett career days paced the Mansfield Mountaineers women’s basketball team, but a slow start doomed them against Shepherd falling by a score of 80-62.

Nazih netted a career high 23 points to go along with five rebounds. Burkett also scored a new career high 15 points and grabbed six rebounds. Katie Sheeler was one rebound shy of a double-double scoring 13 points and nine rebounds.

Nazih was the hot hand for the Mounties (2-15, 0-10 PSAC) in the first quarter accounting for 8 of Mansfield’s 14 points. The Rams (3-11, 1-8 PSAC) used the home court advantage early shooting 53% from the field and was 4-6 from three-point range. Mounties trailed 27-14.

• Sophomore Sean Martinez earned a win in the 200-yard freestyle, junior Drew Degnan set a pair of personal bests, and junior Gwyn Fox also snagged a PR in a competitive meet against Juniata and Wilkes.

Martinez earned the lone Lycoming win of the day, taking the 200 free in 2:08.87, winning by a little under a second. Degnan, meanwhile, took second in 50-yard freestyle, ripping off a career-best time of 26.26. He also clocked a new PR in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in third with a mark of 1:04.69.

On the women’s side, Fox took third in a tightly-contested 50 free, logging a new personal best of 30.62. Fox also finished fourth in the 100 free at 1:08.94. Senior Megan Lonergan earned a fourth-place finish in the 200 free while freshman Riley Pool logged fourth-place marks in 200 back (3:01.15) and 800 free (11:42.32).

Lock Haven traveled to Newville, Pennsylvania, to compete in the John A Pidgeon Memorial & Last Chance Invitational.

Lock Haven scored 134 points in the John A Pidgeon Memorial Invitational and 148 in the Last Chance Invitational, both hosted by Indiana (Pa.) at Big Springs High School.

The Bald Eagles returned to the pool for competition for the first time since Dec. 5, after an extended holiday break.

In the John A Pidgeon Memorial, Madison Bortner finished sixth in the 500-yard freestyle, with a finals time of 5:49.99. In the same event, Delaney Stains placed eighth with a time of 7:05.04.

In the Last Chance Invitational, Kate MacAlister finished seventh in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:24.87. In the same event, Nora Craig finished 10th with a 2:29.52.

• The Lock Haven men’s and women’s track and field teams opened the New Year by sending athletes to the Nittany Lion Open (Penn State) and River Hawk Invite (Susquehanna).

At Penn State, Eric Zalar hit a PSAC qualifying mark with a 18.2-meter throw. Montoursville graduate Josiah Schans’ PSAC qualifying time of 35.18 in the 300 meters is good enough for third all-time in program history. He also hit a PSAC mark in the 60m hurdles (8.11).

On the women’s side, Samantha Trench timed in at 9.24 (PSAC qualifying time) in the 60 hurdles first round at Penn State.

At the River Hawk Invite, Paige Watson finished second in the 3,000 meters, finishing in 11:42.15.

Clarissa Davis finished 3rd in the shot put with a distance of 11.50, and Alannah Irwin finished fifth in the 60 hurdles in 10.25.
