Local roundup: Reidy leads South girls to win against CMVT
South Williamsport’s Maddie Reidy nearly outscored CMVT by herself with an 11-point effort as the Mounties dominated CMVT on the road, 56-16. Abigail Holbrook scored nine for the Mounties and Carly Quimby, Ella Moore and Brielle Borgess each chipped in six.
Jersey Shore limited Danville to two fourth-quarter points en route to a 38-29 win against the Ironmen.
Marley Lehman scored 12 points to lead the Bulldogs as Avery Depasqua added seven and Sadie Schall scored six.
The Bulldogs and Ironmen were knotted up at 13 all after the first quarter and Danville held a 21-18 lead going into the break. Shore narrowed the deficit to 27-26 before a 12-2 advantage in the fourth sealed Danville’s victory. Cece Coombe scored 19 for the Ironmen.
Montoursville fell to Lewisburg, 43-23. The Green Dragons used a 19-point fourth quarter to take a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. The Warriors were limited to single digits all four quarters, and were held to just eight second-half points.
Trinity Belle and Marissa Sweeley led Montoursville with five points each as Kayleigh Sheleman had a team-high 11 rebounds, Emily George grabbed seven and Dahlia Campbell had eight.
Wellsboro was limited to just 12 points as NTL foe Towanda cruised past the Green Hornets, 49-12. Payton Perry scored 13 for Towanda and Brynn Woodruff added nine. Towanda led 26-4 at the break.
Canton defeated North Penn-Liberty on the road, 57-32. Haley Litzelman posted another double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds along with five steals and two blocks while Victoria McTish had eight points and two boards.
Canton was led by Cailyn Van Noy’s 22 points, Lydia Roupp’s 12 and Stella Rockwell’s 11.
Emma McCormick scored 10 points and Muncy again played swarming defense, improving to 10-0 with a 25-12 win at Sullivan County. The Indians did not allow more than five points in a quarter and surrendered just seven over the final three. Anna Zalonis had eight points and Ava Eyer eight rebounds with five steals. Alexis McKeta grabbed nine rebounds and Hailey Ganoe six.
Bre Nixon scored 12 points and St. John Neumann played Benton nearly even over the final three quarters in a 44-25 loss. The Knights scored all their 25 points over those last three quarters and reached a season-high in points as well.
Kenna Thomas scored a game-high 15 points and Williamson allowed just four first half points, defeating Cowanesque Valley, 42-15. Olivia Nolan added nine and Bailey Snyder eight.
• Ousmane Duncanson brought home silver at 165 pounds to headline three placewinners for the Lock Haven men’s wrestling team at the David H. Lehman F&M Open, hosted by Franklin & Marshall.
Duncanson led the way with a second-place finish, while Nick Stampoulos (157 pounds) and Nick Kunstek (165) placed third and sixth, respectively.
Duncanson soared to the 165 finals with a 4-0 start, including a pair of falls (6:47 & 1:46), a major decision (10-2) and a decision (4-2). Duncanson was edged out by Virginia Tech’s Ryan Burton by a 7-6 decision in the championship bout.
In similar fashion, Stampoulos won four consecutive matches to reach the semifinals, before dropping a 7-2 decision to George Mason’s DJ Mcgee. Stampoulos bounced back with a 9-1 major decision in the third-place bout and finished the day with two tech falls (18-3 & 21-5), a fall (1:40).
Kunstek rounded out the point scorers for Lock Haven after reaching the fifth-place round thanks to a pair of major decisions (13-5 and 15-5) and a decision. Kunstek fell to Logan Fowler (Air Force) in the fifth-place bout.
Sean Louge (133) finished 4-2 with a decision, major decision (12-0) and a pair of falls at 1:57 and 5:24.
Lucas Fye also competed at 133 and finished 2-2 with a decision and tech fall (18-2).
