Local roundup: Thompson’s 26 points helps Neumann boys beat Montgomery

Daiton Thompson scored 14 of his game-high 26 points in the first quarter and was part of a well-rounded offense as St. John Neumann defeated Montgomery, 74-43 and won its third straight game on Monday in boys basketball action.

Kane Meixel also started hot, scoring seven of his nine points in the opening quarter and Neumann built a 50-26 halftime lead. Jahki Brister scored 15 points for the Knights, Legend Dillard 11 and Zaidyn Diehl-Romano eight. Parker Bennett led the way for Montgomery with 17 and Damaj Stewart Williams added 10.

Aiden McKee scored 19 points and was one of three Warrior Run players in double figures as the Defenders beat Muncy, 64-25. Muncy was limited to single digits in three of four quarters.

Ethan Balzer scored 12 and James Keifer added 10. Muncy was led by Jaxton Frantz’s 12 points.

Sullivan County cruised to a 59-24 win on the road against Canton thanks to holding the Warriors to single digits all four quarters. Lucas KIng had a 23-point effort to lead the Griffins Tucker Blasi added nine points, nine steals and five assists. Jaiden Moore led Sullivan wtih 10 rebounds as the Griffins are 11-2.

Selinsgrove secured a 56-42 win against Jersey Shore. The Bulldogs had a pair of double-digit scorers in Ty McDermit and Carson Watkins, who both scored 10. The Seals’ Xavier Jackson scored 27 points and Jack Piecuch scored 10.

• Milton defeated Montoursville in girls basketball, 46-35, to move above .500 (6-5). Carrie King had a 17-point, 15-rebound double-double for Milton while Jaslene Holder had 17 points with five steals.

Carrie King had 15 rebounds, six assist and six steals while Liz Schrock had nine rebounds. Montoursville was led by Emily George’s 12 points and Marleigh Bainbridge’s eight.

South Williamsport fell to Meadowbrook Christian, 41-26. Maddy Fasnacht had 25 for Meadowbrook and Lauren Dugan scored 10. The Mounties saw Carly Qumiby score eight and Ella Moore contribute seven.

North Penn-Mansfield defeated Central Mountain at home, 45-35. The Wildcats saw Payton Williams and Camdyn Weaver both score nine points and Elise McKean added eight.

Mansfield scored 16 in the second quarter to lead, 25-13, at the half and never looked back. Kameron Lightner had a 15-point, 26-rebound double-double while Maddy McNamara scored 10 with eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Elaina Shaw had seven points, eight rebounds, six steals and two assists.

• Milton had a number of restlers reach the podium at the Southern Tier Memorial Tournament this past weekend. As a team, the Black Panthers took eighth out of 37.

Ty Locke took third at 138 and was Milton’s highest-placing finisher. Chase Lytle was a fourth-place finisher at 157 and Jackson Wertz (165) and Michael Runkle (190) both took seventh.

Both Aiden Twigg (138) and Brody Locke (150) were eighth-place finishers.
