Local roundup: Warrior Run boys clinch HAC-III title outright with win

On Friday night, Warrior Run’s boys basketball team did something that no other Defender team had ever done in the 2000s: win the league title outright.

Warrior Run beat Hughesville, 68-41, on the road to cinch the HAC-III title outright for the first time this century.

James Keifer added 21 points for the Defenders while Carter Sheesley scored 15 points and Aiden McKee scored 13.

Warrior Run limited the Spartans’ offense as no Hughesville player reached double figures. The Spartans were led by Alex Schultz’s nine while both Evan Mackenzie and Gavin Knarr both scored seven. Schultz added four rebounds and Mackenzie had four steals.

Loyalsock suffered a 53-48 setback on the road against Southern Columbia in Catawissa. Loyalsock had a trio of double-digit scorers in the loss. Saoj Jones led the Lancers with 15 points, Brayden Cioffi scored 13 and Issac Blackwell added 10.

South Williamsport defeated Montgomery, 76-47, as the Mounties were sparked by Levi Butler’s 31 points. Butler scored 12 points in the third quarter alone. Bobby Regan added 10 for the Mounties. Andrew Walter and Chance Quimby each grabbed seven rebounds and Quimby had five assists.

Montgomery had just three players score, but all three reached double igures. Parker Bennett scored 21 points, James Godley scored 14 and Damaj Stewart-Williams scored 12.

Jersey Shore lost to Shikellamy, 64-54. Carson Watkins scored 16 points for the Bulldogs, Tucker Hana scored 14 and Jacob Lorson added 13. A seven-point second quarter hurt Jerey Shore as Shikellamy scored 22 to take a 38-21 lead into the break.

Sullivan County’s Lucas King went 9 for 14 from the field to lead the Griffins with 21 points. Tucker Blasi scored 12 points with eight steals and five assists and Jaiden Moore had seven rebounds.

Lewisburg defeated Danville, 78-45. Cooper Mowry had a 25-point performance to lead the Green Dragons offense. Leon Tucker II scored 16 points, Nazir Meredith scored 15 and Cortland Michaels added 10. Rebira Jemama added eight.

North Penn-Mansfield defeated Wellsboro at home, 54-45. Jason Harer scored 21 points for Mansfield while Nady Hermansen added 17 and Kevin Clemente-Vazquez scored eight.

Wellsboro was led by a trio of double-digit scorers in Griffin Morral (12), Colin Fletcher (12) and Jonathan Carl (10).

Northeast Bradford narrowly defeated North Penn-Liberty in a close NTL contest, 48-46. Eli Stanton scored 13 for Northeast Bradford and Clay Wilks added 12. North Penn-Liberty was led by Evan McTish’s 21 points and Landon Mattern’s 10.

• The Mansfield University men’s and women’s track and field team competed on January 30 at the Bucknell Multi and Open hosted by Bucknell University.

Cahsid Raymond had an immaculate performance breaking another school record in the 200 with a time of 22.02. Minyhah Easterling placed 10th in shot put with a mark 11.55 meters and Olivia Meisner 10.48 meters.

Noah Shedden finished fourth in the 5,000 with 15:51.02. Alyssa Parks competed in the 60 hurdles, finishing with a personal best of 10.41.

Dorrian McCArgo (23.64 – PR), Pius Adomako Jr. (23.72 – PR), Jerry Holmes Jr. (24.11 – PR), Dominic Bill (24.34 – PR) and Ibrahim Sheriff (24.89) all raced the 200m as well.

A quartet of Marissa Allen, Zalayna Brown, Wyoming Trudeaux and Parks finished 10th in the distance medley relay with a time of 13:46.83. Makayla Robicheaux finished the women’s 200 with 37.37.

Montoursville graduate Lily Saul set a Rhode Island University program record in the 800 meters at the BU Scarlet and White Invitational recently. Saul broke her previous school mark and ran a time of 2:04.94 for the new record.

The Montoursville native leads the A-10 and ranks 11th best in the nation.
