Local roundup: Warrior Run’s McKee grabs 1,000th rebound in Defenders’ win
CHRISTA CONFAIR/Special to the Sun-Gazette Warrior Run's Aiden McKee grabbed his 1,000th rebound on Friday in the Defenders' 63-27 win vs. Loyalsock.
Aiden McKee joined an elite fraternity Friday night, grabbing his 1,000th career rebound as Warrior Run routed Loyalsock, 63-27. McKee now has topped both 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. He also produced his 11th double-double, going for 11 points and six blocks. McKee needed one rebound to reach 1,000 entering the game and now has 1,014. Ethan Balzer had a big game, scoring 24 points and adding six boards. James Keifer had nine points and six assists and Warrior Run (16-1, 7-0 HAC-III) won its ninth straight game, breaking things open by outscoring Loyalsock, 35-11 in the middle quarters. Jalil Coates led the Lancers (11-6, 3-4) with nine points.
St. John Neumann put on an offensive show and became the first area team in three years to reach 100 points, downing Bucktail, 100-62. Daiton Thompson produced the 4th highest point total in Neumann history, erupting for 48, while Jahki Brister scored a career-high 31. Those two did most of their damage in the first three quarters as Neumann built an 85-52 lead. The Knights (11-6, 4-2 Mid-Penn) won their eighth straight game and scored 63 points in the middle quarters to break things open. Thompson and Hill also each drained three 3-pointers. Gavin Pick had a big night for Bucktail, scoring a career-high 31 points and freshman Corbin Pentz added 17.
Hughesville put together a dominant second half, scoring 43 points and turning a five-point halftime deficit into a 60-49 win against Bloomsburg. The Spartans outscored Bloomsburg, 43-27 in the second half and Gavin Knarr scored 10 of his game-high 23 points during a 22-6 third quarter run. Evan Mackenzie scored a career-high 16 points and added five rebounds, while Alex Schultz had a double-double of 12 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. Knarr also had four assists.
Montoursville started strong and Shea Ulmer scored 23 points in a 62-43 win against Central Columbia. The Warriors (13-5, 5-2 HAC-II) opened the game on a 23-10 run and Ulmer scored 20 points through the first three quarters, also hitting five 3-pointers. Elijah Eck scored 10 points and was one of eight players who scored. That included Carson Menne who had seven points off the bench.
Lewisburg defeated Milton, 68-28. Cooper Mowry scored 17 points, Leon Tucker scored 16 and Cortland Michaels and Nazir Meredith scored 11 each.
Wellsboro defeated Cowanesque Valley in NTL action, 54-47. Colin Fletcher scored 22 for the Green Hornets and Griffin Morral and James Doughtie both scored eight. Josh Teague scored 13 for Cowanesque Valley and Levi Stahli and Ashtyn Burdick each chipped in nine.
• North Penn-Liberty suffered a 39-36 loss to Meadowbrook Christian. Haley Litzelman had a 16-point, 10-rebound, six-assist, five-steal, three-block double-double while Kendall Graham and Victoria McTish both had seven points apiece. Meadowbrook saw Maddy Fasnacht score 20.
