Local roundup: Wentzel moves up Montoursville’s all-time wins list in wrestling
Montoursville defeated Warrior Run, 36-29, in a boys wrestling dual on Thursday in a matchup of talented programs. Montoursville’s Gage Wentzel won at 172 pounds with a 8-5 decision vs. Max Wirnsberger and etched his name into the history books at Montoursville.
The win gives Wentzel his 168 career win, moving him into sole possession of second all-time in Warrior history, surpassing Garrett Hoffman’s mark of 167. Wentzel is now behind only Gavin Hoffman (176) in Warrior history.
Branden Eisenhour had a 19-3, 3:34 tech win at 121 against Emmett Ranck. At 172, Gage Wentzel of Montoursville earned an 8-5 decision victory over Max Wirnsberger and Hayden Harvey won at 189 by pinning Blake Parker in 1:30.
Warrior Run’s Chase Wirnsberger had a 9-0 major win vs. Brody Bower at 127 and the Defenders’ Tyler Ulrich pinned Mason Murray at 215 in 1:44.
Montgomery cruised past Mount Carmel to win, 47-16. Brandt Harer inched another step closer to the District 4 all-time wins mark as he picked up another, earning a 18-2, 44-second tech fall against Bradley Clark at 145 pounds. The win puts Harer at 189 for his career, two shy of tying his brother Conner for the district record of 191.
Josh Knoebel pinned Alexander LaMas at 160 in 3:34 and at 172, Raiden Felix of Montgomery earned a 16-11 decision against Evan Jones. Montgomery’s Trace Furman also had a tech fall win, doing so at 152 19-4, 2:31 against Lukas Carpenter. In total, the Red Raiders won four bouts by tech fall as Liam Seeley (121) and Carden Wager (133) also had tech wins.
Lewisburg fell to Central Columbia in, 39-33. Landen Wagner had a fall in 2:17 to win at 152 pounds against Josiah Hosler and at 133, Landon Michaels pinned Ryder Bates in 66 seconds. Lewisburg’s Ethan Long pinned Logan Miller in 3:02 at 172.
• North Penn-Mansfield cruised to an NTL win against Sayre in girls basketball, 67-11. Kameron Lightner posted a 16-point, 14-rebound double-double with six assists and three steals. Maddy McNamara added 21 points, seven steals, six rebounds and two assists for Mansfield.
Sayre was shut out in the second and third quarters and Mansfield pulled away with a 35-6 lead after the first.
Wellsboro defeated Cowanesque Valley, 42-30. Wellsboro had a pair of double-digit scorers in Kate Bryant’s 13 points and Addy Frantz’s 11. Starr Ordway scored 16 for the Indians.
North Penn-Liberty lost a tough home game against Wyalusing by just two points, 49-47. Haley Litzelman had a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds with three assists, three steals and three blocks while Kendall Graham had 18 points, three rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Scarlett Graham had six rebounds, four steals, four points and two assists.
Wyalusing was led by three players in double figures in Jenna Morningstar (14), Alysha Botts (13) and Emily Johnson (12)
