Local rounudp: Loyalsock boys basketball beats Mifflinburg by a point

Saoj Jones hit a game-winning shot with five seconds remaining at Mifflinburg, lifting Loyalsock to a thrilling 40-39 win against the 2025 HAC-III co-champions. Jones scored nine points as did Brecken Gusick and Braydon Cioffi scored eight of his team-high 12 points in the fourth quarter. The game was tight throughout with Loyalsock (8-2, 1-0) leading by three after one, trailing by three at halftime and it being tied entering the fourth quarter.

Montoursville had four players reach double figures and broke things open in the fourth quarter, defeating North Penn-Mansfield, 69-40 for its third straight win. Shea Ulmer scored a team-high 16 points and drained four of the team’s eight 3-pointers. Kingston Fisher had 13 points an Cam Cintron and Elijah Eck 10 each. The Warriors (8-2) have won eight of their last nine games and outscored North Penn-Mansfield, 24-7 in the fourth quarter. Andy Hermansen scored a game-high 19 points for the Tigers and Jason Harer had 10.

Nazir Meredith scored a career-high 25 points and helped Lewisburg open its HAC-II schedule with an impressive 66-47 win at defending co-champion Mount Carmel. Meredith scored 17 second-half points, including in 11 in the fourth quarter to help the Green Dragons (6-4, 1-0) pull away. Lewisburg used a 23-10 second quarter run to build a 13-point halftime lead as Cooper Mowry scored 11 points and LJ Tucker 10.

Cayden Smithkors nearly had a double-double and matched his career-best in points, going for 21 points and eight rebounds as Sullivan County routed Benton, 68-34. The Griffins (7-2, 4-0 Mid-Penn) built a 35-13 halftime lead and Tucker Blasi had 14 points, six rebounds and four steals. Colin King produced 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Ryan Murray added seven rebounds and Jaiden Moore six.

Warrior Run opened defense of a HAC-III championship it shared with Mifflinburg a year ago in impressive fashion, defeating Bloomsburg, 70-32. James Keifer scored a career-high 23 points and ignited the Defenders (9-1, 1-0) who outscored Bloomsburg, 39-14 in the middle quarters. Aiden McKee added 14 points and Clayton Skokoski eight off the bench.

Gavin Knarr continued his strong junior season, scoring 17 points but a big third quarter helped Southern Columbia open a big lead as it defeated Hughesville, 75-47.

Levi Stahli scored 16 points and Ashtyn Burdick 12 for Cowanesque Valley in a 66-44 loss against Coudersport. The offense came alive in the second half with CV scoring 34 points after a scoreless first quarter.

• Ava Eyer produced her second straight double-double and Muncy stayed undefeated, winning a hard-fought 45-38 contest against North Penn-Mansfield. Rosie Zalonis added 15 points and drained four 3-pointers as Muncy (7-0) used a 13-6 third quarter run to break a halftime tie. The Indians also limited North Penn-Mansfield to 15 second-half points. Kameron Lightner had 11 points for the Tigers and Maddy McNamara nine.

Alaina Dadzie recorded her sixth straight double-double, producinjg 14 points and 10 rebounds as Loyalsock defeated Mount Carmel, 51-29 on the road in its HAC-III opener. Jaekairah Harden scored 11 points and made four steals, while Madison Perry generated eight points five assists and three steals. The Lancers (6-3, 1-0) handed Mount Carmel just its third loss in 11 games.

Jaelynn Helmrich scored 12 points, Kinsley Cannode 10 and Williamsport played eight-win Towanda tough in a 48-44 road loss. The Millionaires led 16-10 after the first quarter and trailed by one entering the fourth against a team which has won eight straight games. Zaelana Minor and Laylah Martin each scored eight points. Minor also excelled on the boards, grabbing 13 rebounds.

• Montgomery went a perfect 6-0 at the Juniata Duals to take home the team title. Lewisburg finished 5-1 and took second, with their lone loss coming at the hands of the Red Raiders.

Montgomery beat Claysburg Kimmel (76-0), Greencastle Antrim (49-13), Juniata (65-6), Lewisburg (60-9), Southern Huntingdon (68-3) and West Branch (67-6).

Montgomery dominated Lewisburg, losing just two bouts. Brandt Harer had a dominating 18-1, 39-second tech fall win at 145 over Ben Barbella. Montgomery’s Liam Seeley had an 18-2 tech fall in 3:08 at 121 and at 107, Manny Stoltzfus pinned Colton Lyons in 60 seconds.

Against Claysburg Kimmel, Gabe Oberheim pinned Nathan Cox in 38 seconds at 114 pounds and at 133, Carden Wagner earned a 21-5, 2:37 tech fall vs. Rylan Quarello.

Liam Seeley earned a 19-3, 2:47 tech fall at 121 against Greencastle Antrim’s Kahl Cordell and at 215, Evan Hugar of Montgomery beat Ben Jansen by decision, 8-5 SV-1.

Montgomery used a string of three falls and a tech from 160-215 to dominate against Juniata. Josh Knoebel (160, fall in 1:18), Raiden Felix (172, fall in 3:05), Gage Furman (189, tech fall 15-0, 4:17) and Hugar (215, fall in 1:44) won.

Stoltzfus pinned Southern HUntingdon’s Michael mcGovern in 1:41, which began a string of six straight wins via fall for the Red Raiders as Oberheim (114), Liam Seeley (121), Carter Finck (127), Carden Wagner (133) and AJ Kroft (139) all had pins, Kroft’s coming in just 10 seconds.

Against West Branch, Harer had a 17-2, 0:42 tech fall win vs. Carter Crain at 145 and at 160, Knoebel dominated Jaykob Sample with an 18-0, 3:48 tech fall. Stoltzfus pinned Julian Panebianco in 1:23.

Harer had four tech fall wins all in 45 seconds or btter in the tournament.

Lewisburg saw success at the Juniata Duals, going 5-1 and taking home a second-place title as a team. The Green Dragons beat Soouthern Huntington (40-33), Claysburg-Kimmel (59-18), West Branch (43-25), Greencastle Antrim (36-35), Lewisburg (45-21) and lost to Montgomery (60-9).

Against Southern Huntingdon, Lewisburg’s Landen Wagner picked up a fall in just 1:15 over Aaden Cromwell at 152 pounds. Nolan Altoft also had a fall in 1:15, doing so at 139 over Noah Fogal.

Landon Michaels had a 19-3, 2:59 tech fall win at 133 against Claysburg-Kimmel’s Rylan Quarello.

Brody Wenrich of Lewisburg had a fal in 3:15 against West Branch’s Carter Crain while Lennon Barner won at 189 witha hard-fought 8-3 decision victory. Against Greencastle Antrim, Lewisburg’s Wenrich pinned Brody Shafer in 40 seconds.
