Lock Haven’s Gabe Strickland receives MAC East Wrestler of the Week honors
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Senior Gable Strickland of the Lock Haven men’s wrestling team was named the Mid-American Conference Eastern Division Wrestler of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Strickland (133 pounds) went 3-0 on the mat and picked up his 100th career victory, while leading the Bald Eagles to a 3-0 record at the Davidson Duals with victories over Brown (29-12), Presbyterian (53-0), and North Dakota State (18-15).
Strickland opened the day with back-to-back tech falls vs. Brown and Presbyterian, before ending the day with a bang with an upset victory over No. 31 Tristan Daugherty (North Dakota State) with a dramatic 1-0 decision. Strickland’s ranked win vs. North Dakota State proved crucial as the Bald Eagles edged out NDS, 18-15.
Also on Saturday, head coach Scott Moore became the fifth head coach in program history to reach 100 victories, doing so in under 13 full seasons.
The Haven is now 7-3 on the season and will enter the heart of its MAC schedule riding a five-match win streak.
The Bald Eagles return to Mat-Town USA on Sunday, when George Mason comes to town for a MAC showdown at noon in Thomas Fieldhouse. The afternoon will also serve as the program’s Alumni Appreciation match and is a crimson out.
