Montgomery advances in District 4 Duals with win vs. Central Columbia

Montgomery cruised to a District 4 Duals victory in the first round on Wednesday evening by beating Central Columbia, 57-12, to advance to Saturday’s quarterfinals.

The win pits Montgomery against Wyalusing on Saturday, a 54-16 winner against South Williamsport.

The Red Raiders won nine of 11 contested bouts and of those nine victories, all were bonus points with either pins or tech fall victories.

Gabe Oberheim pinned Colt Carmean at 114 in 31 seconds and Carden Wagner had a 67-second pin for the Red Raiders at 127. At 133, Carter Finck pinned Ryder Bates in 44 seconds and a bout later at 139, Montgomery’s AJ Kroft pinned Garrett Panco in just 17 seconds.

At 150, Trace Furman of Montgomery picked up a 15-0, 1:43 tech fall vs. Ethan Miller and at 160, Josh Knoebel needed just 62 seconds to pin Josiah Hosler.

Montgomery’s Raiden Felix (172) and Gage Furman (189) posted back-to-back tech fall wins. Felix earned a 17-0, 2:31 tech over Logan Miller and Furman had a 17-1, 5:08 tech against Ari Rupert.

Evan Hugar of Montgomery pinned Noah Musselman in 1:59 at 215.

Central’s Kyle Curland won at 107 with a 3:35 pin against Ian Marquette and at 285, Clayton Whitenight of Central Columbia pinned Keigan Clark in 3:02.

Montgomery’s Brandt Harer won by forfeit at 145. There was no bout at 121.

Elsewhere in the District 4 Duals tournament, Wyalusing earned a 54-16 win against South Williamsport to advance.

The Mounties’ Garrett Bacorn picked up a 15-0, 5:32 tech fall win at 114 pounds against Austin Jones which narrowed the deficit to 6-5 after an opening Wyalusing forfeit win at 107.

But from there, it was all Wyalusing. The Rams would score 33 straight points to put the dual away from 121-152.

South Williamsport’s Cade Lusk won at 160 wtih a fall in1 :38 against Holden Patrick. A bout later at 172, Jayden Hamm of South Williamsport picked up a 19-3, 4:12 tech against Connor Earle to cut the deficit to 39-16.

Wyalusing would close the dual out with a major decision win, a pin and a tech fall. At 189, Ethan Vanderpool earned a 19-9 major against Cole Gerber. Dan Foz of Wyalusing pinned Ben Werner at 215 in 1:50 and at 285, Brenden Wells earned a 19-4, 1:00 tech fall over South’s Oz Bird.

Hughesville had a play-in match and defeated Troy, 31-18, before suffering a 68-5 rout loss to Mifflinburg, the top-seed in the tournament and tenth-ranked team in Pennsylvania.

Williamson beat Canton, 41-29. Central Columbia defeated Sullivan County, 49-17.
