Montgomery cruises to win Mid-Penn Championships in wrestling

Montgomery's boys wrestling team kept its perfect season in tact by winning both of its matches at the Mid-Penn Championships to claim the title.
The Red Raiders beat Benton in the semifinals, 73-0, before beating South Williamsport in the final, 54-10. The two wins move Montgomery's record to 18-0 this year as the Red Raiders head to the Mid-Winter Mayhem Tournament on Friday and Saturday before hosting Danville on Tuesday in a dual at 7 p.m.
Each Red Raider win against South Williamsport was either by pin or tech fall. Manny Stoltzfus had a 22-3, 5:57 tech fall win over Garrett Bacorn at 107 and at 121, Gabe Oberheim pinned Wes Hamman in 48 seconds. Liam Seeley had a 19-4, 3:10 tech fall at 127 over Taylor Nagule and Carden Wagner had an 18-2, 2:19 tech fall vs. Jackson Bower at 133.
AJ Kroft needed just 18 seconds to pin JOnah Caputo at 139 and at 145, Brandt Harer earned a 23-4, 31-second tech fall against Louis Mazzullo. Trace Furman won by tech fall at 152 against Garrett Lorson, 17-1, 2:58 and Josh Knoebel had a 19-4, 5:24 tech fall win for the Red Raiders at 160 against Cade Lusk.
South's Jayden Hamm, Cole Gerber and Elijah Harvey picked up the only wins for SOuth Williamsport at 172, 189 and 285, respectively. Hamm earned a 14-2 major win vs. Raiden Felix at 172, Gerber beat Gage Furman at 189 in a close contest that resulted in a 4-2 decision victory and Harvey earned an 8-2 decision win vs. Keigan Clark.
Evan Hugar of Montgomery pinned Ben Werner at 215 in 1:16.
Montgomery dominated its semifinal matchup with Benton, picking up bonus points in all 11 contested bouts with either a pin or tech fall victory. Knoebel needed just six seconds to pin Ryder Wilson at 160 and Kroft pinned Keaton Brokenshire at 139 in 30 seconds. Montgomery also saw two other sub-minute falls with Seeley pinning Korben Collae in 50 seconds and Wagner pinning Gunner Sternhagen in 48 seconds.
Harer had another dominating tech fall performance against CMVT with a 38-second tech fall (21-4) against Caiden Shuckers.
In the semifinals, South beat Muncy, 41-32. In the quarterfinals, Muncy beat Sullivan County, 41-30, and South Williamsport beat Sugar Valley, 56-8.
Against Muncy in the semifinals, the Mounties scored all but six of their team points between 152 and 285 with three pins, a tech fall and three forfeit wins.
Eli White had a 1:24 pin against Cameron Caldwell at 172 and at 215, Cole Gerber had an 18-0 tech fall vs. Liam Driscoll. Elijah Harvey pinned Dylan Sander in 49 seconds at 285.
Muncy's Gannon Swank had a 10-6 decision win at 114 vs. Garrett Bacorn and at 121, Roman Maiorana of Muncy secured an 18-2 tech fall over Wes Hamman. Gage Swank of Muncy won via fall in 127 against Taylor Naugle.
Kase Snyder pinned Jonah Caputo at 139 in 4:03 and at 145, Chase Boozer pinned Louis Mazzullo in 3:45.
Muncy secured the win vs. Sullivan County thanks to two fall wins at 189 and 215. Driscoll pinned Landon Young in 59 seconds and Dylan Sander pinned David Lentz at 215 in 5:58. Sullivan's Andrew Kapec had a 2:42 fall at 139 against Kase Snyder and Boozer of Muncy won at 145 by pinning Wyatt Bagley in 3:02. Sullivan County's Tucker Evans pinned Caldwell in 4:19 at 172.
