Neumann boys win 6th straight, defeating Wellsboro
St. John Neumann stayed hot and won its second hard-fought game in three nights as Daiton Thompson scored a career-high 38 points in a 64-57 win against Wellsboro. Thompson reached a new career-high for a third time in three weeks and helped the Knights (9-6) win after the game was tied at halftime. He scored 34 points over the final three quarters and Jahki Brister added 12 and Legend Dillard nine. Avery Taddeo also hit a key fourth quarter 3-pointer, helping Neumann close on a 20-14 run. Colin Fletcher scored 19 points and Gideon Lawton 13 for Wellsboro.
Ashtyn Burdick produced a career-best in points for a second straight game, going for 23 as Cowanesque Valley defeated Canton, 61-40. Burdick has 44 points in his last two games. Parker Lee also had a career-high, going for 16 points. Ryder Route and Monte Whitehead each scored 16 points for Canton.
Conner Lewis produced a double-double, going for 12 points and 19 rebounds as North Penn-Liberty thumped Benton, 52-27. Lewis topped 10 rebounds for the eighth time in nine games and the defending District 4 Class A champions built a 32-point third quarter lead. Landon Mattern had 11 points and four assists, while Luke Kreger added nine points and Sudan Benner and Evan McTish eight each.
Hughesville’s girls’ basketball team played stifling defense and built a 25-point lead as it defeated Milton, 50-14. The Spartans (13-2) did not allow more than five points in a quarter. Maddie Smith and Vivian Draper each scored 13 points and Tori Morgan seven off the bench. Carrie King grabbed eight rebounds for Milton as Hughesville snapped its four-game winning streak.
Ava Eyer collected her sixth double-double, going for 19 points, 12 rebounds and five steals in Muncy’s 52-21 win against Warrior Run. Rosie Zalonis scored 14 points with five steals and Anna Zalonis had 10 points. Emma McCormick and Alexis McKeta combined for eight steals, helping Muncy improve to 13-1. Charlie Morente had eight points for Warrior Run.
South Williamsport started strong at Mid-Penn East-leading Northwest and led by five entering the second quarter but could not sustain the momentum in a 42-24 loss. Maddie Reidy scored seven points for South which hung in until the fourth quarter when Northwest closed on a 16-8 run.
Teagan Osunde had 12 points and seven rebounds in Lewisburg’s 40-22 loss against Shikellamy. India Walker scored eight points, and Addy Shedleski grabbed eight rebounds. Lily Fatool became Shikellamy’s all-time leading scorer and had 24 points.
