Penn College men beat St. Mary’s by 20 points

Penn College took down St. Mary’s, 77-57, in a United East men’s basketball contest Friday. The Wildcats improved to 3-5 UE, 4-15 overall, while the Seahawks fell to 3-4, 7-10.

Deadlocked at eight apiece early in the first half, Penn College used a 10-0 run to take an 18-8 lead on Owen Newcomer’s three with 13:50 left before the break. The Seahawks eventually tied the game at 26, with 6:26 on the clock before PCT used a 10-4 spurt to end the half ahead, 36-30.

Penn College led the entire second half, with its smallest lead being four, 41-37, and its largest lead 23, 77-54, on Brody Tharp’s long ball with 57 seconds left.

Cydae Joseph-Davis netted a game-high 17 points for the Wildcats and grabbed seven boards. Newcomer finished with 11 points, while Peyton Murphy added 10 points and a team-best eight rebounds.

Penn College returns to action Saturday, Jan. 31, at Penn State Brandywine.
