Robinson’s 20 points helps lift LHU women past Shepherd

LOCK HAVEN — Alana Robinson scored a game-high 20 points and knocked down the game-winning bucket to power the Lock Haven women’s basketball team to a gritty 59-58 victory in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Saturday afternoon over Shepherd.

Lock Haven, who has been defeating the opposition by double-figures all month, proved its toughness by edging out the Rams in a hard-fought 40 minutes to earn its eighth straight victory, all coming against PSAC East foes.

The Bald Eagles improved to 14-5 on the season, 10-3 in the conference and 9-1 in front of the home crowd. Shepherd fell to 5-13 on the year and 3-10 in the PSAC.

Robinson poured in a game-high 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting and added six rebounds and two blocks to pace the Bald Eagles.

Rhlyn Rouse backed her with 17 points and seven boards, while Madeline Evans finished with nine points and a game-high 15 rebounds as Lock Haven dominated the glass 43-23, including a 15-4 edge on the offensive boards.

Lock Haven trailed 46-36 with just over four minutes to play in the third quarter and 56-46 midway through the fourth before mounting its decisive rally.

Rouse and Robinson combined to fuel the surge, and Robinson’s layup off a Jenadia Jordan feed tied the game at 56-56 with 1:12 remaining. After Jordan knocked down two free throws to give LH a 57-56 lead at the 44-second mark, Robinson answered again, burying a jumper in the lane with eight seconds left to put Lock Haven on top 59-58.

Starting at $2.99/week.
