FARWELL — The Bucktail girls’ basketball kicked off senior night in Farwell in style by picking up a 45-26 win to honor its 12th graders. The girls’ team improved to 12-8 and now just has to win one of their final two road games, at South Williamsport on Wednesday or at Curwensville on Thursday to clinch a home playoff game next week.

The evening started off with the school honoring the three seniors in Miyah Devlin, Eva Sockman and Kendall Wagner.

Bucktail’s Sockman likely doesn’t want the season and her basketball career coming to an end as the senior continues the best stretch of her career. With leading scorer Kelcie Wagner out due to injury, Sockman has continued her double-digit rebounding per game but has now added a whole lot of points as well.

“If we play like we did tonight the rest of the week, we will be playing at home next week for sure” said a proud head coach Suellen Wagner. “The teamwork and engagement with each other are just working for us right now.”

Sockman’s first two shots of the gamer were from behind the arc as she helped her team jump out to an 8-0 lead and the team dominated Neumann Regional Academy from there. Sockman finished with a game high of 24 points.

KEVIN RAUCH/Special to the Sun-Gazette Bucktail's Eva Sockman competes on Monday against Neumann's Breanna Nixon.

“Watching Eva and Kendall (Wagner) working together, working that give and go, seeing Eva making softball style passes, it’s just such a fun experience seeing them click so well right now” coach Wagner said. “And I absolutely loved to see Maya score four points tonight on senior night, that was well deserved.”

Kendall Wagner finished the night with 15 points and continues to just be an almost unstoppable force while driving to the net.

As for leading scorer Kelcie Wagner, her Suellen said that she will be ready for the playoffs, adding that she knows her daughter is frustrated by both her mom and her coach holding her out as an injury improves each day.
