Jersey Shore, Williamsport wrestlers compete on Day 1 of Northeast Class AAA Regional

Williamsport and Jersey Shore had a number of wrestlers competing on the first day of the Northeast Class AAA Regional in Bethlehem. The tournament resumes on Saturday morning.

Jersey Shore’s Gabriel Fisher advanced to the championship semifinals at 121 pounds. Fisher had a 15-2 major decision in the quarterfinals against Archbishop Ryan’s Dillon Carr thanks to a flurry of points in the thrid period. The win moved him to the semifinals where he’ll face Bethlehem Catholic’s Nico Emili.

Fisher led 6-1 going to the third period. In the first round, Fisher beat Notre Dame-Green Pond’s Cole Schwartz with a pin in 4:18 after he trailed narrowly, 6-5.

At 152, Jersey Shore’s Louden Spotts had a Round of 16 win in dominating fashion, 17-2, 4:39 against Archbishop Wood’s Andre Callaway to reach the quarterfinals. Spotts had a 7-0 lead in the first period thanks to a takedown and nearfall.

In the second period he scored a takedown with 1:39 remaining and a nearfall for two points with 1:12 left. He was awarded a stalling point and escape late in the period and held a 14-2 lead.

In the quarterfinals, Spotts suffered a 9-4 decision loss to Notre Dame-Green Pond’s Jared Gonzalez. Spotts trailed 8-0 in the second period thanks to Gonzalez scoring with a reversal and two nearfalls. Spotts had a takedown early in the third period, but that would be the only offensive points he’d score in the bout. The loss puts Spotts into the consolations.

Jersey Shore’s Tobias Morgret reached the quarterfinals at 160. Morgret dominated in the Round of 16 with a 15-0, 3:47 tech fall win over Academy at Palumbo’s Kevin Vu. Morgret led 7-0 after the first period and had an escape, takedown and nearfall in the second to put the tech fall win into place.

In the quarterfinals, Morgret lost to Emmaus’ Xyler Sallit by fall in 2:43. Morgret had a takedown with 54 seconds left in the first period to lead 3-0, but it was short-lived as an escape and takedown in an 18-second span put Sallit ahead, 4-1, going to the second period.

Sallit had a reversal nine seconds in the second period before he was able to get Morgret on his back for a pin. The loss drops the Bulldog into the consolations.

Jonathan Dincher of Jersey Shore suffered a 20-5, 2:00 tech fall loss in the Round of 16 to Emmaus’ Xayden Sallit and fell into the consolations.

Sallit dominated in the first period with six takedowns and a nearfall to rack up points as Dincher wasn’t able to get an offense mounted.

Jersey Shore’s Riley Kanski lost by tech fall to Delaware Valley’s JJ Segal, 17-2, 4:35 at 189. The loss dropped Kanski into the consolations. Segal led 6-1 into the first period and scored seven in the second period.

Williamsport’s Jordan Piselli, the Millionaires’ lone District 4 champion from last week, suffered a 5-1 decision loss in the 114 quarterfinals to Parkland’s Braden Todora. Todora had a reversal in the first period to lead 2-0 going to the third.

After an injury and caution early in the third, Piselli had an escape to make it a 2-1 deficit, but a takedown with 56 seconds helped Todora secure the win as he held on and limited Piselli’s ability to score after that.

Piselli reached the quarterfinals with a Round of 16 win over Academy at Palumbo’s Robert Randolph by fall in 1:46 after he led 13-2.

At 215, Williamsport’s Jackson Raker advanced to the championship quarterfinals before suffering a loss. Raker had a pin in 62 seconds over Frankford’s Jonathan Vicenty in the Round of 16 to advance. In the quarterfinals. Raker had a double overtime TB2 loss against Pitston’s Brody Spindler, 4-1. Spindler led 1-0 thanks to an escape with 47 seconds in the second period, but an early escape six seconds into the third tied it and forced overtime. The loss puts Raker into the consolation bracket.

At 160, Williamsport’s Austin Dunlap fell into the consolations after suffering a 3:23 pin loss to Wallenpaupack’s Tristan Braxton. Dunlap held a 7-6 lead on Braxton before the Wallenpaupack sophomore got the fall.

Williamsport senor Collin Nasdeo fell in overtime to Carlo Salinas of Wilkes-Barre in the Round of 16 at 127, 8-5. Nasdeo led 5-3 with 1:06 left in the third period, but Salinas then had a key reversal with 1:05 left to tie it up.

Salinas secured the win with 37 seconds left in the first overtime period with a takedown. Nasdeo fell into the consolation bracket with the loss.

In the consolations, Nasdeo stayed alive with a 19-1, 4:31 tech fall win over Neil Carr of Archbishop Ryan. Nasdeo led 7-1 going into the third period where he then scored an impressive 12 points in just over a minute’s span to secure the win.

Gabe Spagnuolo of Williamsport suffered a 10-0 major loss in the Round of 16 at 107 against James Dwyer of St. Joseph’s Prep.

At 133, Steven Bott of Williamsport suffered a 2:36 fall loss in the Round of 16 against Hazleton’s Jude Salko. Salko held a 9-1 lead over the Millionaire. He had a 6-1 lead in the first period and had a takedown with 1:53 left in the second before he secured the pin.

Williamsport’s Lauger Waldman lost to Northeast’s Archil Paulin by decision, 11-4. A takedown and nearfall within 25 seconds in the first period put Paulin ahead, 7-0. Neither scored in the second and Paulin had another takedown 12 seconds into the third to lead 10-0. Waldman had a reversal and was awarded two points via stalling calls, but wasn’t able to rally late as time ran out.

Gavyn Kelton of Notre Dame-Green Pond had a win against Williamsport’s Alex Wright by fall in 1:30. Kelton had three first-period takedowns and led 9-2 before he earned the fall.

Jahki Burget suffered a Round of 16 loss to Abington Heights’ Lucas Drake. Drake earned a pin in 1:33 after he led 6-1. Drake secured a takedown with 1:46 and an escape allowed Burget to try to mount an offensive attack. But just 20 seconds later, Drake had another takedown which led to the fall.
