LHU men’s wrestling team extends win streak by beating Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG — The Lock Haven men’s wrestling team continued its impressive season with a convincing 32-12 victory over Bloomsburg at Nelson Fieldhouse on Thursday night.

Lock Haven extended its win streak to nine matches while improving to 11-4 overall and a perfect 4-0 in Mid-American Conference action.

Despite falling behind early when Bloomsburg earned a pin at 125 to lead 6-0, Lock Haven quickly seized control and never looked back. The turning point came at 141 pounds, where Wyatt Henson delivered a punishing 19-4 tech fall over Tristan Corbin in 4:18, putting the Bald Eagles ahead 8-6 and setting the tone for the remainder of the dual.

The middle weights proved to be Lock Haven’s strength, with No. 23 Lucas Kapusta providing one of the night’s most dominant performances. The 149-pounder overwhelmed Cael Raines with a 19-3 technical fall in 4:45, scoring multiple takedowns and back points to extend Lock Haven’s lead to 13-6.

Nick Stampoulos continued the onslaught at 157 pounds, controlling William Morrow throughout their match en route to a 14-3 major decision. Stampoulos accumulated four takedowns and earned riding time to secure the bonus points that pushed Lock Haven’s lead to 17-6.

The Bald Eagles maintained their momentum through the upper weights, with Nick Kunstek grinding out an 11-5 decision over Braidon Woodward at 165 pounds. Avery Bassett followed with an impressive 8-0 major decision victory over Eric Alderfer at 174, benefiting from multiple stalling calls against his opponent to coast to victory.

Perhaps the most explosive performance of the evening came from Sam Gautreau at 184 pounds. The Lock Haven wrestler put on a takedown clinic against Connor Hudak, scoring seven takedowns in the first period alone before securing a 21-6 technical fall in just 2:54. The rapid-fire scoring sequence effectively put the dual out of reach for Bloomsburg.

Tucker Hogan capped Lock Haven’s dominant night with a workmanlike 7-2 decision over Coy Raines at 197 pounds, earning riding time to secure the victory and push the team score to 32-6.

The victory showcased Lock Haven’s depth and balanced scoring attack, with bonus points proving crucial in building its commanding lead. The Bald Eagles earned two technical falls, two major decisions, and avoided any upset losses that might have kept Bloomsburg competitive.
