Local roundup: Jersey Shore girls beat Shikellamy 61-49

The Jersey Shore girls produced their most impressive win this season, handing Shikellamy its first league loss in nine games and scoring 27 fourth quarter points in a 61-49 victory. The Bulldogs (12-6) drained 10 3-pointers with freshman Marlee Lehman scoring a career-high 20 points. Kylie Schall (14) and Avery DePasqua (9) combined for 23 points and six 3-pointers, while Kylie Schall had 14 points and Gracelyn Frantz eight. Jersey Shore turned a four-point second quarter deficit into a five-point halftime lead and Lehman went 7 of 8 at the foul line in the fourth quarter.

Alaina Dadzie scored a career-high and 2026 area-high 41 points, while Madison Perry produced a triple-double as Loyalsock hammered Southern Columbia, 77-42. Dadzie also had a double-double, finishing with 11 rebounds and drilling a career-best six 3-pointers. Perry also had a brilliant night, scoring a career-best 15 points, dealing 11 assists and grabbing 10 rebounds. Jillian Kennedy added two points and Loyalsock (12-6) made 10 3-pointers. Dadzie became the first Loyalsock player to reach 40 points in the 2000s and the defending state champions outscored Southern, 47-26 in the middle quarters.

Maddie Smith erupted for 28 points in one half of action, helping Hughesville defeat Warrior Run, 64-16. Smith had 14 points in both quarters played and the Spartans (17-2) built a 51-6 halftime lead. Tori Mogan scored 10 points and 11 different Spartans scored. Allyssa King added seven points for Hughesville which heads to surging Mount Carmel Tuesday.

Carly Quimby scored 14 points and combined with Brielle Borgess and Ella Moore to make six 3-pointers in a 47-18 South Williamsport win at Montgomery. Borgess and Moore scored eight each and Maddie Reidy had 11. South built a 27-6 halftime lead and won its second straight, improving to 10-8.

Jaeylnn Helrmich scored a career-high 25 points and Williamsport played North Schuylkill even during the second half but was unable to erase a 15-point halftime deficit in a 60-45 road loss. Freshman Clara Fabian hit two 3-pointers and Williamsport scored 29 second half points.

Sullivan County won its fourth straight game, using swarming defense to beat CMVT, 35-6. The Griffins (10-9) moved above .500 and Eva Fresno scored 12 points. Ansley Baldwin added nine.

Lewisburg played excellent defense and won its third straight game, defeating Shamokin, 40-22. Teagan Osunde had eight points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals, while freshman India Walker went for nine points and five steals. Addy Shedleski grabbed nine rebounds and Lauren Schwartz had eight points, five rebounds and four steals.

• Tevin Williams scored a game-high 25 points and Williamsport made 12 of 13 foul shot attempts as it won at Altoona, 70-58. Williams scored eight of his points in the fourth quarter, going 4 of 4 at the line there and draining two 3-pointers. The Millionaires (8-9) outscored Altoona, 29-24 in the final quarter and Kason Ulmer scored 16 points. Freshman Mekhi Gaston added eight.

Jersey Shore produced 26 assists on 32 field goals and made 21 steals as it pounded Midd-West, 81-51. Four players scored in double figures, including Khani McCray who had 16 points, six rebounds and six assists. Carson Watkins had 14 points with five rebounds and Jacob Lorson 12 points, nine assists, five boards and three steals. Ty McDermit added 12 points.

Sullivan County allowed just three points over the final three quarters and Lucas King had 22 points, five rebounds and five assists in a 73-13 bulldozing of Northwest. King had 9 of 11 shots, Tucker Blasi (15 points) 6 of 8 and Cayden Smithkors (12 points) 5 of 7. Colin King added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Ryan Murray had six boards. The Griffins (16-3) won their fourth straight game.

Nine players scored for Cowanesque Valley and that balanced effort helped it defeat Canton, 61-33. Parker Lee scored 11 points and Ashtyn Burdick 10 as the Indians hit seven 3-pointers and built a 36-20 halftime lead. Ryder Route scored 12 points for Canton and Monte Whitehead eight.

Colin Fletcher went off for a career-high 31 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter as Wellsboro boosted its playoff hopes with a 59-53 win against defending District 4 Class AAA champion Troy. Luke Rothermel also had a strong game, scoring 18 points as Wellsboro improved to 9-9.

Evan McTish produced his third double-double this week and Conner Lewis added another as North Penn-Liberty thumped Sayre, 67-25. McTish had 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Lewis went for 11 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. Brody Grinnell (11) and Luke Kreger (10) also reached double figure point totals as the defending District 4 Class A champions improved to 12-7.

• Sophomore Sean Martinez picked up a victory in the 500 free to highlight a double-dual meet for the Lycoming College swim team against Moravian University and Susquehanna University.

In the final meet of the regular season, Martinez turned in a time of 5:17.73 in his winning event, leading wire-to-wire as he won by over five-and-a-half seconds, picking up his seventh victory of the season.

A strong showing was also put up by junior Drew Degnan, who took second in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:18.69, and first-year Dominic De Mar, who took third in the 1,000 free with a mark of 11:38.51.

On the women’s side, senior Megan Klansek placed third in the 50 free with a time of 29:31, finishing less than 1/100th of a second out of the runner-up spot. Junior Gwyn Fox also finished third in the 100 free, clocking in at 1:02.33. Finally, senior Anasten Holbrook placed third in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 2:45.79.

Mansfield’s women’s track and field team competed at the Bucknell Multi and Open hosted by Bucknell University. Samantha Newman finished eighth in Triple Jump with a mark 10.52 meters. Newman competed in the 60-meter dash finishing at 8.33. Sandra Lemus (8.70) and Makayla Robicheaux (8.71) joined as well.

Wyoming Trudeaux and Alyssa Parks ran the 400m finishing with 1:03.17 and 1:05.26 respectively.

On the men’s side, sophomore Marcus Quaker reestablished his Heptathlon record, this time with 4,736 points. Quaker tied for second place in pole vault with a mark of 3.76 meters, finished second in the 1000m (2:57.44) and took first the 60m hurdles (8.60).

Cahsid Raymond finished second in the 60m dash with a time of 6.85. Raymond finished ninth in long jump with a mark of 6.55 meters.

Lock Haven competed at Bucknell as well. Leading the way, Reagan Irons captured first place in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 2 1/2 inches to secure her spot at the PSAC Championships. The Bald Eagles also dominated the 1,600 relay, as the Lock Haven “A” squad – Alexanne Fite, Makayla Weber, Nicole Carroll, and Elizabeth Shultz – claimed victory with a time of 4:08.50, marking the team’s top relay performance of the season.

In the field events, Clarissa Davis continued her consistent year with a PSAC mark and fourth-place finish in the shot put, posting a throw of 40-5.

On the track, several Bald Eagles added PSAC-qualifying performances. Weber sprinted to a time of 9.43 seconds in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles, while Shultz earned a PSAC mark in the 400 meters, clocking 1:00.25 and taking seventh overall. Carroll also notched a conference mark in the 800 meters with a time of 2:25.13, and Kelci Carle ran 1:25.04 in the 500 meters, placing fifth in the event.

At Bucknell, the Lock Haven men’s 1,600 relay team of Matt Reinard, Cam Lewis, Ryan Williams, and Josiah Schans crossed the line in first in 3:26.03.

Kristian Mizdail finished second in the 1,000 meters (2:40.32) and fifth in the mile (4:24.28), the latter meeting the PSAC standard. Matt Reinard added a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (8.42), also a PSAC mark.

In the jumps, Ben Streator earned runner-up honors in the high jump (6-2 3/4), and Michael Lawrence took second in the triple jump (13.55m/44-5.50). Kevin Taylor tied for fourth in the pole vault (13-3 1/2), while Eric Zalar placed eighth in the shot put with a PSAC-qualifying throw of 14.76 meters (48-5 1/4).
