Lyco’s Block tallies hat trick in loss at Misericordia in women’s lacrosse
DALLAS — Senior Riley Block notched a hat trick and first year Julia Dammes notched a pair of goals for the Lycoming College women’s lacrosse team in their season-opening 18-6 defeat at Misericordia on Wednesday.
In the process, Block’s hat trick left her a goal shy of becoming the fifth player in program history to reach 200 career goals.
Misericordia (1-0) scored the first two goals before Block’s first tally at the 8:17 mark of the first quarter. After a response gave the Cougars a 3-1 lead after one period, first year Lillian Quigley scored 80 seconds into the second, closing the deficit to one. Misericordia then scored six straight goals to take a 9-2 lead into halftime.
Dammes’ first goal at the 12:27 mark in the third broke up eight straight scores by the Cougars, then Block scored twice in the final five minutes of the period, scoring her third with 1:48 to go in the third. Dammes pocketed her second score with 1:40 left in the contest.
Block’s three scores and Dammes’ two goals were supplemented by Quigley’s goal and assists from junior Mychaela McDowell and first year Molly Giufre. Sophomore keeper Emma Yanders made 14 saves.
Misericordia was led by Delaney Campanella’s eight-point night (five goals, three assists), plus six points (four goals, two assists) from Alicia Pileggi and five points (three goals, two assists) from Kristen Travaglini, plus five saves from Ryann Gross.
The Warriors will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 25, for a non-conference matchup at Marywood University. Opening draw from Scranton is scheduled for 4 p.m.
