Mansfield women’s hoop falls to East Stroudsburg on road

EAST STROUDSBURG – The Mansfield Mountaineers women’s basketball team competed on Wednesday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action against East Stroudsburg. The Mounties fell in a late pull away, 95-72.

Tyarah Woody led Mansfield with 14 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting night, while Amiyah Nguyen added 13 points, six assists, and five rebounds. Katie Sheeler chipped in 12 points, and Jenna Kasmierski added 11 for the Mountaineers.

The Mountaineers jumped out early, but East Stroudsburg used a strong first quarter and steady scoring throughout to build a halftime lead and pull away late.

Mansfield (3-21, 1-16 PSAC) battled in the second half, scoring 43 points over the final two quarters. However, they could not close the gap as the Warriors secured the conference win, 95-72.

East Stroudsburg (15-9, 10-8 PSAC) shot nearly 50 percent from the floor and controlled the glass to earn the 95-72 victory in front of 279 fans.

The Mountaineers are set to compete on Saturday for the perfect date night in Decker Gymnasium, as they host Shepherd University with tip-off at 1 p.m.
