Watching back his matches has helped Eisenhour get even better

HUGHESVILLE — It’s far from uncommon to watch Montoursville sophomore Branden Eisenhour watching his matches back. He isn’t reliving great moments though. He’s seeing what he did wrong.
Where did an opponent get an opportunity to take him down? What little thing could he have done better?
Eisenhour always wants to be better when he’s on the mat, and watching his film back is one way he does that.
“I go back and I watch my matches frequently. I watched King of the Mountain and the first couple dual meets to now, it’s a big level of improvement,” Eisenhour said. “I slowed myself down, controlled my ties, working on my techniques better and not just flailing around. Slowing myself down in a tight meet.”
You can’t argue with the results.
Eisenhour won a repeat Central Sectional title this year at 107 pounds and is now 42-3 entering the District 4 tournament. The Montoursville sophomore had a first-round bye on Saturday into the championship semifinals at 107 pounds.
The Warrior opened the tournament with a dominating 19-3, 2:46 tech fall over Muncy’s Gannon Swank and in the final, he pinned Benton’s Korben Collae in 3:30 to win a gold medal.
“In the finals, my technique wasn’t really there, so I came at his movement,” Eisenhour said about wrestling Collae. “I had to keep moving from one direction to another, ended up getting a take down there.”
Watching those matches back throughout the year is paying dividends, that’s for sure.
“That’s why I like watching my matches to see what I did right, to see what’s working for me and to see what I didn’t do right,” Eisenhour said. “I see what I’m getting scored on, stuff like that, and you pick up (on stuff) and work on it. I picked up a lot from the videos I’ve watched.”
Eisenhour is ranked No. 4 in the state at 107 pounds and is the highest-ranked District 4 wrestler. The only wrestlers above him are Chestnut Ridge freshman Kooper Deputy (No. 1), Trinity freshman Arav Pandey (No. 2) and Honesdale sophomore Nathan Schuman (No. 3).
Now Eisenhour turns his attention to districts and now will look to better his bronze-medal finish as a freshman a year ago.
“Very happy (to move on),” Eisenhour said. “I feel like I’m doing the right things at the right time of the year, putting in the work. It’s showing.”
It definitely is.
