A competitive first half gave way to an overwhelming second-surge as Delaware Valley pulled away from Williamsport for a 73-47 victory in the District 2-4 Class 6A semifinals on Monday night.
The Millionaires stayed within striking distance early and trailed just 19-14 after the first quarter. Delaware Valley extended its advantage to 36-28 by halftime, but the Warriors took control after the break, outsourcing Williamsport 37-19 in the second half.
Delaware Valley’s quick guards consistently pushed the pace and created open looks in transition while also converting at the foul line. The Warriors gradually stretched the lead to 55-39 entering the fourth quarter before pulling away late.
After the game, Delaware Valley coach Kris Holtzer emphasized the importance of halftime preparation.
“I think it goes back to my college days…if you watch college basketball games the teams are doing two-line layups,” Holtzer said. “We have to get up and get our blood moving and get a good start in the second half and set a tone. I try not to micro-manage too much but with that stuff I really wanted to so we can start off strong in the second half.”

Williamsport showed flashes offensively throughout the first half. Maaziv Lowe and Quincy Williams each scored early baskets, and Kason Ulmer fought through traffic inside for multiple finishes at the rim. A 3-pointer from Ethan Chilson helped keep the Millionaires close late in the second quarter. Chilson led Williamsport with 15 points, including a fourth-quarter basket. Ulmer added 12 points and Quincy Williams and Lowe finished with six each.
The Millionaires also produced several defensive stops, highlighted by a block from Tevin Williams and strong interior defense from Mekhi Gaston. Tevin Williams later answered with a fast-break dunk.
However, Delaware Valley’s perimeter shooting and transition offense proved difficult to contain. The Warriors steadily increased their lead each quarter and capitalized on rebounds and free throws.
Despite battling through the opening half, Williamsport could not match Delaware Valley’s pace after the break. The Millionaires end their season at 11-2 as the Warriors advance to the district title game,
