Williamsport knew that Saturday’s Williamsport Invitational would have a lot of tough competition on both the boys and girls side. With teams like Tunkhannock, Athens, Lewisburg, Bloomsburg and Danville competing, that meant there wouldn’t be any easy events to win.
But with that tough competition, Williamsport did well overall.
Evan Summers, Cooper Allmaras, Aviya Halstead and Brady Ross all took home multiple top-5 finishes in their respective events to pace the Millionaires at a tough home meet.
Williamsport’s boys swim team finished as runners-up in the team race with 304 points, trailing only Tunkhannock’s 400. Rounding out the top 5 were third-place Athens (246), fourth-place Danville (170) and fifth-place Central Mountain (168.5).
Milton finished tenth with 76 points, Wellsboro was 11th with 57 and Lewisburg was 12th with 51 points.

In the girls race, it was a tight race between the top four teams. Danville won with 295 points followed by Bloomsburg (267), Lewisburg (246) and the Millionaires (231). Milton took fifth with 186, Jersey Shore was eighth with 152 and Central Mountain took ninth with 113 points.
“I think they all did well. I think they did exactly what they needed to do today: they had fun, they swam the events they wanted to swim and for some of the kids who didn’t ever swim (some events), they did well in them. They showed me some other things that they had,” Williamsport coach Brett Johnson said.
Summers was the Millionaires’ lone first-place finisher on Saturday as he won the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.77, beating out Tunkhannock’s Noah Salters by six seconds (1:06.25) and teammate Evan Weaver (1:08.43).
In the 200 free, Summers had a solid performance to swim a 1:48.87 as he was behind only Bloomsburg’s Chase Moore, who won in 1:47.75. Lewisburg’s Colin Shannon took third (1:51.07). Muncy’s Logan Diehl competed as an independent in the boys 200 free as well and swam a time of 2:00.46.
“His 200 free has been sort of a shocker to himself and to us. He swam really well today in that and his breast stroke. He did a good job,” Johnson said of Summers. “He did what he needed to do, he stretched it out, he swam it relaxed, it wasn’t his best time which I didn’t expect him to and I actually talked to him to stretch it out and get a feel in the water, and that’s what he did.”

RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Williamsport's Kyla Becker competes in the girls 100 Butterfly during the Coaches Invitational swim meet at Williamsport on Saturday.
Allmaras was second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.84 and was less than two seconds behind Mifflinburg’s Malachi Moyer (2:07.01). Teammate Nathaniel DePrenda finished third in 2:18.61. Allmaras would also claim a third-place finish in the 100 back as he swam a 1:58.16. The only swimmers ahead of him were Athens’ Brayden Pettitt (55.13) and Bloomsburg’s Grayson Reck (54.18) who both broke a minute.
“Cooper, his IM has really come down from where it was last year. I don’t know where he’s going to go if he’s going to swim that at districts, but he’s been doing really well,” Johnson said. “Same thing with his back stroke. There’s some fine-tuning things we have to do to help him get faster, but we still got a month until it really matters, so that’ll come.”
Ross took fourth in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 free.
Williamsport’s Halstead was the only girl swimmer to claim two top-5 finishes for the Millionaires. Halstead finished third in the 100 free and fourth in the 50 free. In the 100 free Halstead swam a time of 57.61 and trailed only Athens Evelyn Panek (second, 57.02) and Lewisburg’s Emma Hopkinson (first, 54.81).
Dylana Richards was fourth in the 500 free with a time of 5:50.63. Morgan Shannon of Lewisburg won in 5:24.54.

RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Williamsport's Payton Paules competes in the girls 100 butterfly during the Coaches Invitational swim meet at Williamsport on Saturday.
“Aviya has been doing it all season. She did well again today. She didn’t hit her best, but that doesn’t matter. Like I said, it matters in a month. Same thing with Dylana. Dylana has been more of a sprinter for us this year and she chose to do a different event for us today and she did really well,” Johnson said. “For her time, I think she said it was her second-best time this year in that event ever, so that’s great for someone who hasn’t been swimming it. She did a great job in that as well.”
Williamsport’s Cy Haight took fifth in the 500 free and Annie Ross was a sixth-place finisher in the 100 breast.
Milton’s Nolan Scheller claimed two top-5 finishes as he was second in the 100 fly and fifth in the 50 free. Wellsboro had three swimmers finish seventh or better. Makenna Robbins took third int he 100 breast and fourth in the 200 IM, Piper Anderegg was third in the 500 free and fifth in the 200 free, and Max Mascho finished seventh in the 100 back.
