Williamsport, Hughesville have plenty of medalists at Williamsport Showcase
The Williamsport Showcase for girls wrestling was competed on Saturday afternoon at the Magic Dome, and the host Millionaires saw plenty of success at numerous different weights.
Hughesville took fourth with 120 points, trailing only Athens (156.5), Shikellamy (145.0) and Nazareth (136.0). Williamsport took seventh (85.5).
Williamsport’s Malaina Comfort finished second at 100 pounds, Danica Bacorn (106) was a fourth-place finisher, Emma Schell (130) took fourth, Mah’ogny Bell-Smalls (142) took fourth and Mia Davis took fourth at 190.
Comfort fell in the first-place final at 100 to Nazareth’s Chelsea Dressler by tech fall, 21-5, 5:24. Dressler improved to 28-2 with the win.
Competing at 106, Williamsport’s Danica Bacorn competed with Hughesville’s Julia Ritter for third. Ritter picked up win No. 29 as she pinned Bacorn in the first period in 1:34.
Schell reached the third-place final at 130, but came up shy as Aubrey Rebuck of Shikellamy pinned the Millionaire in 58 seconds to hand Schell a fourth-place medal.
Bell-Smalls finished fourth after the freshman was pinned by Nazareth junior Jasmine Donello in 2:55. Davis of Williamsport was pinned at 190 to Central Mountain senior Ashlyn Miller (19-7) by fall in 1:26. The loss moves Davis, a senior, to 17-8.
Jersey Shore’s Isabella Gottschall continued her solid season with a gold medal at 155. She was the Bulldogs’ only medalist. Gottschall needed just 70 seconds to pin Bailee Scott of Bellefonte in the final. The win moved Gottschall, a junior, to 20-2.
Hughesville had a pair of silver medalists in Jaysa Kiess (118) and Caroline Hicks (148). Julia Ritter was third at 106, Isabella Olshefskie took fourth at 100 and at 124, Ariahna Moore finished fourth.
Kiess finished with a silver medal at 118 for the Spartans. The freshman standout wrestler — who is 33-6 this year — lost by major decision to Athens junior Joyce Clink by major decision, 14-2. Clink is now 24-5. Moore took third at 124 when she was defeated Northeast Bradford’s Mackenzie Clark. The win moves Moore, a junior, to 29-8.
Central Mountain’s Kendall Wagner finished as a runner-up at 170 and teammate Ashlyn Miller took third at 190. Wagner reached the final at 170 and battled, but lost to Shikellamy freshman standout Finley Boetsch by fall in 2:16. The loss was Wagner’s fifth of the year (20-5) while Boetsch is now 27-1. Miller pinned Davis of Williamsport in 1:26 to take bronze.
