Golf tip of the week: Choosing the proper style grip that fits you
PHOTO PROVIDED Choose the grip style that works for you, it can make a difference.
Changing your grip will improve your game. There are three grip styles to choose from such as overlapping, interlocking and the baseball grip. The type of grip you use is your preference, however the size of your fingers, hands, and strength could dictate which grip would best fit you.
For example, overlapping may be best if you have short fingers. If you have long fingers, the interlocking grip would be best. If you have arthritis or are losing strength in your hands, the baseball grip can increase power and flexibility to cock the wrist. Cocking the wrist is one of the elements needed for power and a higher trajectory.
Experiment with the various types of grips to see which works for you.
For many years I have recommended against the baseball grip, but as I got older, I found the baseball grip is very beneficial for a fourth of my students, including myself.
Don’t forget to enjoy this great game called golf.
