Golf tip of the week: Sand texture dictates which club to use

The club does not touch the ball when hitting out of fluffy sand, the ball should ride on a divot of sand.
An excellent thought is to imagine a board buried approximately 1 inch below the ball, and the sand wedge will bounce off the board, carrying the ball out. This thought will help gauge how much sand you want to take out with the ball.
The amount of sand you should take out is approximately the size of a dollar bill. The further you are from the green, you should hit closer to the ball.
If the sand is compacted and firm, it is best to use a club with less bounce, such as, a pitching wedge or nine iron.
