Kegler’s Korner: Munro bowls only 800 series last week
Richie Munro bowled the only 800 series last week, topping all local bowlers with an 803 series in the Monday Night Classic League, while Amanda Heck bested all the women, using a 300 game to produce a 758 series in the Thursday Night Bowling League.
Also topping the 700 mark for the women was Sandy Confer’s 717 in the 10+6 Ladies League and Danielle Barlet’s 703 in the Andy Tressler Memorial League.
Chris Utter matched Heck with a perfect game in the Thursday Night Men’s League, while Chris Yoder and Ron Newcomer came as close as one can get as they each tossed a 299 game in the Monday Night Classic and the Thursday Night Bowling League respectively.
Most pins over average honors for the week goes to Erica Hardy who bowled 60 pins above her average with a 221 in the Lycoming Engines League, and Brian McCreadie, whose 277 in the retirees League exceeded his average by 72 pins.

In 1938. Joeseph Kittell became the first local bowler to bowl a sanctioned 800 series when he posted an 825 on games of 247, 299, and 279 in the Montour League on lanes 1-2 at the Masonic Lanes. It was believed to be the 13th highest series bowled nationally at that time. It would be another 19 years before another 800 series was bowled locally.
