Lewisburg sees success on final day of state swimming championships
LEWISBURG — Lewisburg’s Shannon siblings wrapped up the second day of the PIAA Class AA swimming championships at Bucknell in Lewisburg on Saturday in the 500 free.
Lewisburg’s Colin Shannon, a sophomore, just missed out on making the B finals at the PIAA Class AA swimming championships in the 500 free. Shannon swam a time of 4:54.21. Sam Cavanaugh of Northgate won the state title with a time of 4:30.08 while Sam Kieffer of Manheim Central won in 4:35.86.
Lewisburg freshman Morgan Shannon finished 11th after swimming a time of 5:13.50, dropping six seconds from her prelim time of 5:19.60. Shady Side Academy’s Ava Jochim, a junior, won state gold in 4:53.93.
In the 100 free, Lewisburg senior Emma Hopkinson swam the 100 free and finished with a time of 54.56 to take 20th, just missing out on the B finals. Westmont Hilltop sophomore Rylee Kohan won the state title in 50.48, the only swimmer to go below 51 seconds.
Competing in the 100 back, Lewisburg junior Jillian Muchler took 23rd in the event with a time of 1:02.67 in the prelims. Lainey Sheets of Hampton won the title in 54.72. Danville’s Leah Hasenbalg was 24th, just 0.18 seconds behind Muchler in 1:02.85.
The Green Dragons wrapped up the state meet in Bucknell by competing in the girls 400 free relay. That Lewisburg foursome swam a time of 3:43.35 in the finals, dropping two seconds off their prelim time to finish in 13th place in the B finals. That team was comprised of Shannon, Muchler, Claire Graver and Hopkinson. The time the foursome swam at states was also nearly a second better than the time they swam at districts.
