LHU women’s lacrosse falls to Seton Hill, as fourth-quarter lead slips away
GREENSBURG – An explosive fourth-quarter rally by No. 21 Seton Hill proved to be too much to overcome, as the Lock Haven lacrosse team dropped a 14-11 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West decision to the Griffins on Monday afternoon on the road.
The Bald Eagles moves to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while Seton Hill improved to 5-3 and 2-0 in the PSAC-West.
Lock Haven built a commanding 8-4 advantage after two quarters of play, fueled by a dominant second period in which the Bald Eagles outscored Seton Hill 5-2.
The offense was clicking on all cylinders, with Makayla Kelly – the reigning PSAC-West Athlete of the Week – doing what she does best, consistently creating opportunities and converting. Kelly finished the afternoon with three goals and two assists, going 3-for-9 from the field, and served as the engine of Lock Haven’s attack all day long.
Gabby Gunnip was equally impressive, finishing with three goals and an assist, including a pair of power play conversions. Maddy Raspen chipped in a hat trick of her own, going a perfect 3-for-3 on shots. Brynlee Pinschenat tied a team high with two assists, while goalkeeper Gretchen King made six saves across 60 minutes between the pipes.
Despite holding an 8-7 lead entering the fourth quarter, Lock Haven was unable to contain Seton Hill’s late attack, as the Griffins finished the final 15 minutes with a 7-3 advantage to secure the come-from-behind victory.
Bright spots included a power play that went 3-for-3 on the afternoon, and a balanced offensive effort that saw eight different players register a point.
The Bald Eagles travel to Gannon on Saturday or a noon conference game.
