Lock Haven, Bucknell, Penn State wrestlers set for Division I tournament

Wrestling fans have a week to engage in their second-favorite pastime — poring over brackets and debating matchups in the NCAA Championships.

The NCAA announced Wednesday evening the seeds, brackets and first-round pairings for the 330-man field of the 2026 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships scheduled for March 19-21 at Rocket Arena in Cleveland.

Four Lock Haven Bald Eagles, five Bucknell Bison and 10 Penn State Nittany Lions learned their places in the bracket, first-round matchups and potential paths to the top of the podium.

Penn State was accorded what is believed to be an NCAA record seven No. 1 seeds. That should go a long way in helping the Nittany Lions win a fifth consecutive team title

Lock Haven

Four Bald Eagles will represent Lock Haven in Cleveland, after a six-man contingent traveled to Philadelphia a year ago.

Gable Strickland (26-9), a senior 133-pounder, is the No. 31 seed and will meet Ohio State No. 2 seed Ben Davino (27-1), the Big Ten champion.

Wyatt Henson (24-5), a senior 141-pounder who won his third consecutive MAC title, earned a third berth to the NCAA Championships and the No. 13 seed. He meets Julian Tagg (18-6) of South Dakota State, the No. 20 seed.

Sophomore Lucas Kapusta (25-4) won the MAC championship at 149 pounds and earned his first trip to the NCAAs as the No. 17 seed. He meets No. 16 seed Jacob Frost (17-7) of Iowa State.

Both 157-pounder Nick Stampoulos and 184-pounder Sam Gautreau were selected as alternates at their respective weights, Stampoulos for the second year in a row. Each of them will travel to Cleveland, weigh in and be ready to step in if another wrestler at the weight can’t wrestle.
