Lock Haven’s season in women’s hoops comes to an end in PSAC playoffs
LOCK HAVEN — All good things must eventually come to an end, and in the quarterfinal matchup between Lock Haven and Edinboro, both teams knew one side’s season would be cut short.
Despite an outstanding 23 points from Jenadia Jordan, the efficiency of the Fighting Scots proved too much, as Edinboro beat Lock Haven on the Bald Eagles’ home floor, 68-57.
Edinboro got off to a hot start in the first quarter, starting off on an 8-1 run thanks to tough shot making from starting center Ava Haddad. Haddad started off isolated on Lock Haven’s Rhylin Rouse, and attacked that matchup on the first three possessions.
Meanwhile on the other end it was Jordan getting things moving on the Bald Eagles side, hitting back to back floaters and eventually bringing the game within three, but a late run saw the Fighting Scots up 18-12 after the first quarter.
The second quarter saw a much better start for both defenses, as both sides’ shooting went cold and the physicality began to ramp up. Tensions rose after forcing a jump ball on the Edinboro end, Jordan and Scots guard Carla Brown fighting over the ball fell to court, as a notable shove was given after the fact.
Pair that with both sides talking back and forth throughout the game, and you could feel the energy in the fieldhouse beginning to rise.
At the end of the second quarter a late Lock Haven run cut into the lead, but it was still Edinboro in front, leading 30-25. At the break Lock Haven only had three players with points as Jordan, Alana Robinon, and Madeline Evans were the only logged scorers. Meanwhile Gannon had eight players on the score sheet.
In the second half it was much more of the same, as despite tough shot making from Jordan, and great individual plays from the five on the floor, it felt like the Haven could never fully piece it together. Every Bald Eagles run was quickly matched by a response from Edinboro, as Lock Haven never got the game back within one possession.
The tough shot making of the Fighting Scots proved the difference, as despite overall good team defense, they ended the game shooting over 53% from the field.
While Lock Haven would make it interesting late, an 8-1 run to end the game slammed the door shut on any chance of a comeback, as the Bald Eagles fell in a 68-57 defeat.
“Edinboro was better than us today.” Lock Haven coach Jennifer Smith said after the loss, “Unfortunately some days that is going to happen. We kept things close, we kept fighting and we had a chance, we just were not the better team.”
With being left out of the recent regional rankings, despite finishing the season with a stellar 22-6 record, they will be on the outside looking in when it comes to the NCAA playoffs.
Even though the season ended earlier than they hoped, there is still so much the Bald Eagles are proud of when looking back on the season. A point coach Smith highlighted after the game.
“That’s what I pushed in the locker room. I told them I know it hurts right now, but don’t forget about the really, really cool things we did this year,” Smith said. “I mean just going undefeated in east play is so hard. We are so proud of the players we have on our team.”
A season where both Jordan (fourth) and Robinson (third) broke into the top-five all-time in scoring for Lock Haven. A season which saw Jordan get the first triple-double in program history, Evans be top five in the nation in double doubles, and most importantly going a perfect 16-0 in PSAC East play to clinch their third straight regular season title.
After the game coach Smith could be seen talking with her senior leaders, giving them one last farewell and noting how important they all were to the team’s rise.
“They moved the needle, and we are always grateful for that.” Smith said when talking about what four year players Jordan and Robinson meant to the program. “They chose us, and there were alot of options out there. They came in, worked hard every day, and they just got better every year. We are really grateful for everything this senior class gave us.”
Even though it ended early, the 2025-26 season is one that will go down in Lock Haven history books. As names like Jordan, Robinson, Nufi Nemale, and Summer Tillett played their final minutes in Haven colors, all four could be seen holding their heads high, as they leave the program being main contributors to one of the best seasons in team history.
