Montoursville grads having success in track and field at college ranks

A pair of Montoursville graduates are having outstanding seasons when it comes to track and field this year in indoor competition in Lily Saul and Kendall Simms.

Saul competed recently at the Atlantic-10 indoor women’s track and field championships for the University of Rhode Island. She had an individual win in the mile and the 1,000 meters. She also helped the 3,200 and 1,600 relay teams excel.

In the mile, Saul ran a time of 4:44.40. It’s her third-best mark and team’s eighth-best mark of all time. She also repeated as a champion in the 1,000 with a meet record and personal best time of 2:46.86. She is now the team’s second all-time record holder in the event behind Lotte Block’s school record of 2:44.74.

The former Montoursville standout anchored the second-place 3,200 relay team and ran the third leg on the winning 1,600 relay team.

Simms won the pole vault title at the Landmark Conference Indoor Championships and in the process set a new school record.

Simms, a freshman, entered the championships holding the school record of 3.55 meters and set a new record of 3.61 to win the title at the Landmark Conference championships in Selinsgrove.

Simms has broken the school record four times over the winter season.
