Williamsport’s Evan Summers heading to states in swimming in two events
Williamsport’s Evan Summers is once again heading to Bucknell for the PIAA Class AAA swimming championships. A year after he finished with a bronze medal, the Millionaires’ highest podium spot in more than 40 years, Summers, a junior, is going to states in two events.
Summers won the 200 IM as he won with a time of 1:55.51, winning by nearly two seconds over West Scranton’s Roy Ayala (1:57.00).
Williamsport’s Nathaniel DePrenda took seventh in the event with a time of 2:12.53.
Summers is also heading to the state meet in the 100 breast after winning in 55.54, winning the event over West Scranton’s Roy Ayala by just under three seconds (58.20). Williamsport’s Evan Weaver took sixth (1:04.06) in the event as well.
Summers is Williamsport’s lone swimmer heading to the state meet this year. He’ll be joined by Williamsport divers Allie Eberhart and Clover Lindsay, who both qualified.
Cooper Allmaras took silver in the 100 back by swimming a time of 54.81 and was behind only Abington Heights’ Geoff Stanton, who swam a 54.74, in a tight race down to the wire. Nathaniel DePrenda took fifth (59.75) and Williamsport’s Brian Love-Ritchey tied Daniel Barrett of Wyoming Valley West for a seventh-place finish (1:02.96).
Brady Ross finished with silver in the 50 free as he swam a 21.73, just 0.71 seconds behind Abington Heights senior Derek Williams, who secured gold and a trip to the state meet. Cooper Allmaras took bronze in the event with a finish in 22.20. Ross also took third in the 100 free in 48.63 as Abington Heights’ Williams (47.87) won and Delaware Valley’s Ryna O’Connell took silver (48.47). Max Fink took seventh in the 100 free for the Millionaires in 53.01.
Brian Love-Ritchey of Williamsport,a freshman, took home a seventh-place finish in the 100 fly in 1:01.21. In the 500 free, Cy Haight finished eighth in 5:35.45.
Williamsport’s Evan Weaver was a ninth-place finisher in the 200 free in 1:56.72.
Williamsport’s Aviya Halstead narrowly missed winning a district title in the 50 free. The senior Millionaire took silver in 25.43 and was behind only Abington Heights’ Gianna Vachino, who swam a 25.36. Addison Hill was seventh (27.65) and Annie Ross took eighth (27.66).
Halstead also took third in the 100 free in 56.34 behind only Abington Heights’ Hadley Pallman (54.92) and Gianna Vachino (56.19). Elli Halstead swam a 6:13.65 for seventh in the 500 free.
Kyla Becker of Williamsport took silver in the 100 breast in 1:13.77 while teammate Annie Ross took third in 1:14.05. Abington Heights’ Kaitlyn Giermanski took gold in 1:12.83.
Williamsport’s Kiley Persun was a silver medalist in the 200 free as she swam a time of 2:04.32, dropping three seconds. She trailed only Hazleton’s Lia Ochs, a sophomore who broke the two-minute mark with a time of 1:55.52. Persun also took bronze in the 500 free as she swam a time of 5:44.13. The only swimmers ahead of her were Ochs, who won in 5:14.39, and Wyoming valley West’s Keira Legaspi (5:36.61), who took silver.
Miley Johnson was fourth in the event in 2:10.36 and Dylana Richards took fifth in 2:11.46.
Williamsport’s Kyla Becker was a fourth-place finisher in the 100 fly in 1:05.67. Teammate Sarah Carothers took eighth in 1:12.41.
In the 100 back, Williamsport’s Addison Hill (1:13.13) and Dylana Richards (1:12.20) were fourth and fifth.
